Was Chris at JP McCaffrey's a mag?
Trialled both fish n chips shops coming into summer and I really enjoyed JP's. Fish burger was top quality would recommend. Chips were quality and way better vs other store which was big factor for me... but in my opinion a little bit too expensive. Overall I think worth the cost for just a really good feed next to the beach. View all feedback.

What Amber Collins dislikes about JP McCaffrey's:
A nice history of the shop playing on the TV..and you need some entertainment as you wait...and wait for your order to be ready on a relatively quite weekend. Waiting wouldn't be too bad if it was top class fish and chips...but it wasn't. Soggy chips, over cooked batter on the fish. The actual fish inside wasn't too bad once you get it out of the batter. I am a big fan of the ice cream at JP McCaffrey's. The creamy soft serve vanilla was the best I've ever had. It was the perfect treat on a summer day spent in Coogee.

This is fish chips done the English way. Which is also the way fish chips were cooked in Australia until about the 1980s. The fish is lightly crumbed not crispy, and the chips are soggy. Clearly, by most of the comments below, this style of f c doesn't appeal to many Australians. It doesn't really appeal tome either, but I'm happy to give four stars to McCaffreys because they're authentic

This is a classic fish and chip shop with a clean and welcoming interior. Most of the seating is indoors, but there are also a few tables outside. The quarter pounder was delicious, but I personally like my chips to be more crispy. I plan on trying the seafood on my next visit.

If you're craving an escape from the manufacturerd frozen chips which are ubiquitous in Australia, go here. These guys have proper, freshly cut, soft and fluffy chipper chips. Ignore the reviews here from people who've clearly never had a real chip in their lives. Drown them in malt vinegar, grab a club orange and you're good to go.

This restaurant is really good and could pass for a typical chip shop in the UK or Ireland. The chips are delicious and the battered sausage tastes just like the ones back home. I just wish they had a larger drink selection.
