What Fábio Vaz doesn't like about Restaurante Sao Joao:
We have been regular guests of this restaurant for several years now. This restaurant has always been serving good food. Unfortunately, the prices have recently gone up to unreasonable levels, that cannot be justified. The owner used to be very involved and welcoming, but seems...now to neglect the guests and leaves unexperienced seasonal waiters do the job. This is a pity and will backfire against him one day or ano... View all feedback.
Stopped in here for lunch while we stayed nearby at the Sublime Comporta. Wonderful fresh simple meal with one of their rice pots with fresh seafood. Lovely lunch. Their wine list looked incredible but we didn't get a chance to try anything. Definitely would come...back for dinner the next time we visit
Arrived in the town as first time visitors and were wandering around and came across this delightful restaurant and went in for lunch. We had very friendly and effective service and felt welcomed. From the great selection of additional starters they presented we had a...lovely salted cod with chick peas mixed with light onion and coriander, it was incredibly tasty and whetted our appetites as we waited our first course. This was a fantastic collection of charcuterie with some amazing black ham, wow, generous portion sizes too. For our main we were planning on having the octopus, shrimp and rice dish but it was not available. We took our severs alternative suggestion of a mixed seafood with rice dish shrimps, monk fish, clams), beautifully seasoned with coriander and I think saffron. After all that no room for any desert! We had a few beers with our lunch and some bottles of water. Total cost about not cheap but not unreasonable for such a memorable lunch.
We stumbled across this restaurant almost by mistake when we discovered that we had parked right in front of it. So we went inside and found that they had one table left in the front of the restaurant… and we happily snapped it up. It’s...a small, light space with a friendly and informal feeling, and it was full of families happily tucking into generous plates of seafood. We just had a main course each: prawns in a cream sauce with fries, and prawns and clams with coriander, tomato sauce and pasta. It was simple, full of flavour and just what we were after. If you were hurrying, you might have found service a bit slow, but it wasn’t an issue for us, and the final bill was very reasonable. We loved the place.
We both had the best sea bass here, service was great and the wine was fabulous too. I’d recommend this restaurant if you know your food.
