The kind of place you HOPE stays quietly successful for a long while but NEED to share because Columbus needs more actually terrific dining experiences. Layed back but romantic atmosphere with sensible live music is a nice touch but the food…Candied Brussels Sprouts were exceptional and the mushrooms w/ thyme had my wife and I fighting over who got the last bite. What Amelia Murazik doesn't like about El Lugar:
The mushroom wellington was absolutely phenomenal, and the beer was quite good. But lord have mercy, their pintxos were an absolute joke and total embarrassment. If you served a pintxo like that in Bilbao, they wouldn't just chase you out of the Basque country; they'd chase you all the way out of Europe! It tasted good; it's hard to make a bad pintxo, but it lacked severely in quantity. It was about 1/3 of a pintxo. View all feedback.
Two different restaurants together: German and Spanish. Outside seating was pleasant.Food: 5/5
Wonderful food, atmosphere and service. So glad we tried this place. We ordered every tapas offered and 2 shareables (Steak and wine flight and candied brussels…both amazing). Highlight of tapas were scallops and the mushroom Wellington. Really great, we’ll be back!Food: 5/5
We love this place. The food is always delicious and the service is always friendly. I've tried almost everything and haven't had a bad meal yet! Good drinks too.Food: 5/5
Absolutely one of my favorite German Village restaurants! I wish more people knew about this place. They have 2 sides to the restaurant that are connected: one is German food and one is Spanish food. They sometimes will alternate between the two restaurants but you can still order from either menu. I like that they will alternate because both places have a different vibe to them! Alpine is more rustic and where you would want to sit when it's cold out and El Lugar has an adorable outside patio area. The food is amazing! We typically get the Spanish food and it never disappoints. The staff has been the same for years now and they are always very friendly and working hard. Highly recommend!
El Lugar and Alpine are both great choices rolled into one cool, laid back space. The patio is a feature here, great place to sit, sip, and take in the peaceful German Village neighborhood scene. The food menus both have quality Spanish and German options, an odd concept, I know, but don't that discourage you. The chefs know what they're doing, I've never had a dish that wasn't worth reordering.
