Elk Point Resort - Colfax
Elk Point Resort
Description
Perched lakeside with a refreshed northern‑cabin interior, this lively spot is beloved for friendly service, cold drinks, burgers and fries, live entertainment and boat docking. Games and an open, clean dining area add appeal. Popular fireworks nights can be fun but have suffered from delays, poor communication and overcrowded outdoor bars; occasional food inconsistencies include soggy or undercooked fish and the odd cold plate. Staff usually try to make things right, making this a welcoming, casual destination worth revisiting.

The interior has been beautifully updated, capturing an authentic northern lake cabin atmosphere. It's a fantastic location on the lake, perfect for docking your boat and enjoying some food and drinks.
On the other hand, I have to mention that our previous experience wasn't quite as pleasant. The atmosphere of the bar/restaurant is really cool, and the service was friendly, but the food left something to be desired. Two of us received cold dishes, and my fish fry was undercooked—crispy on the outside but doughy on the inside, likely due to the batter being too thick. However, the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were quite tasty. I do appreciate that the wait staff tried to make things right, which was a nice gesture. I plan to visit again, and I sincerely hope for a better experience next time. I’ll update my review if my next visit improves!
We came for the 3rd of July fireworks. It was raining so they were delayed. It was disorganized and they started at 10:45, instead of the advertised 10pm.There were no updates on Facebook or other social media pages where peple look for information on whether or not they were still going to set them off.The portable pottys were not clean, in a terrible location for those of us wanting to watch fireworks, and stank! The outdoor bar was over filled and there were not enough staff to handle the demands. Also people were falling down drunk at 8:35 pm, so I was concerned with the stages ability to know how to cut off serving people. We might go back for fireworks, but won't stay at the campground.
We have been visiting Elk Point for several years now, and we've never had a negative experience, whether it's for drinks, meals, or snacks. The owners have done an excellent job renovating the place over the past few years. The staff has always been friendly towards us. We’ve attended the fireworks display for several years and have never been let down. This year, the fireworks were delayed by about 30 minutes due to storms throughout the day, but I can't complain about enjoying a free 30-minute fireworks show. Elk Point has become our favorite bar when we're at the cabin. We know we can count on good times, friendly service, and delicious food. A small detail, but we really appreciate the cushioned bar stools!
My first visit was for the Friday Fish Fry. I was very comfortable inside. It was clean. It's an open atmosphere, with pool, darts, video poker set in their own area. Which to me is nice because keeps the dining bar area open. The only issue I had was being disappointed with the fish. The fish had better than good flavor. Most of the batter had good flavor, it was crispy. The issue I had was the part that was actually touching the the plate. It was soggy. I can only assume how it got that way, since I obviously wasn't in the kitchen.I would still recommend the business, but I wouldn't suggest the fish, until they come up with a way to fix the soggy issue.I hope they do it soon, reply to this review, because I want to go back!
