Hideaway Primitive Grill - COE HILL
Hideaway Primitive Grill
Description
Despite high prices and the disappointment of longtime customers, the Hideaway offers inconsistent dining experiences under new ownership. While some patrons rave about the ribs with Blueberry Wiskey BBQ sauce, others have encountered lackluster food and service. Mixed reviews range from delicious fresh dishes to overcooked steaks and underwhelming meals. The cozy ambience and accommodating staff are highlighted as redeeming qualities, but overall, the Hideaway's reputation and quality have suffered since the departure of the original owners. With varied experiences and prices, this Coe Hill restaurant may be hit or miss for guests.

We have eaten here for more than a decade. It is under new ownership. We visited twice in August 2017. My wife and I went to the Hideaway for a quick dinner. I was looking forward to their fish and chips and she ordered the chicken and linguine. She really liked the chicken and found it filling and tasty. My fish and chips were utterly disappointing. The fish was half cooked and the breading was soggy. (TO OWNER: The fish truck is Apsley is twice as good at half the price. If you can't make it well, then take it off the menu!)Also, unless you like sweet wine, don't order it by the glass. Their house wine is to be avoided. The second time we went with my son, my brother-in-law and ourselves. We all ordered the rib special and it was very good. We also order a bottle of wine (Malbec) and it was excellent. Much more enjoyable experience.I think the prices are a bit expensive for what they have and the location, but there are very few "nice" restaurants in the area. For that reason, it is worthwhile visiting.
We were literally led up to an amazing gentleman on a cycle, who didn't even wait for a thank you. Me and the sister wanted to buy him a beer and express our thanks. If you're reading this message me :)We enjoyed the portions, we thought they were decent, the mashed potatoes that came with the chops was good, and so were the chops. The highlights were 'Beau' beer, that our waitress recommended; thank you and the sticky toffee cake. Yummy!!!We had a quick chat with the gentleman at the register too, we can only assume he was the owner, we talked a little about motorcycles. We'd go back if we ever visited Coe Hill again.
We had dinner at the Hideaway for the ribs with the chef's special Blueberry Wiskey BBQ sauce. They were to die for!. The entire meal was great with both owners Steve & Susan checking on us to make sure that we were enjoying our meal. The service was great. Just the right amount of time to enjoy a drink before dinner was served. The potatoes were excellent and everything was cooked fresh and hot....I love the patio here and the atmosphere is very fun but relaxing. This is our 2nd visit under the new owners...Kudos to them for a great job!. We will be back again and I often recommend this as the place to stop when going through or vacationing in the area.....
Recently back to the area, glad to see this place has gone out of business! Not surprising at all! Big Als around the corner had better food IMHO! Hope any prospective new owners are real chefs! Miss the days when Sass and her husband ran this (once) gem!
