The lingering effects of the pandemic were noticeable, and the entrance looked a bit cluttered, almost like a storage area. However, we were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in. Our server, Jessica, was very friendly and accommodating, even as we changed tables a couple of times, unable to decide whether we wanted to sit outside or indoors! Once we settled in, our drinks were fantastic. We ordered two sweet teas and a Malibu Diet Coke. The tea was fresh and perfectly sweetened, while the Malibu was generously poured. For appetizers, we chose Gator Bites, Coconut Shrimp, and Mozzarella Sticks. The shrimp were well-sized, the Gator Bites were tender, the Coconut Shrimp were bursting with flavor, and the Mozzarella Sticks were cheesy and not overcooked. For our main course, I had the Coconut Shrimp with steak fries and coleslaw. The shrimp were excellent, and the steak fries were perfectly cooked. My dining companion enjoyed the Jamaican Jerk/Blackened fries, which had a lot of flavor without being overly spicy, along with a Sirloin Steak and Shrimp Scampi served with a loaded baked potato. The steak was juicy and cooked medium, while the shrimp were tender and tasty, and the baked potato was just right. We ordered a piña colada as our second drink, which was my only disappointment. It tasted more like a milkshake with no discernible alcohol flavor – I couldn’t taste any alcohol at all. Overall, I recommend giving Captain J's a shot. It has a lot of potential, with delicious food and friendly service, but a bit of cleanup in the decor could really enhance the experience, as the current atmosphere might deter some customers.
The sky deck was fantastic, with a strong breeze and blazing sun, plus a fully stocked liquor bar! It was the perfect spot for a party—just what it felt like, a big beach bash filled with drinks while we waited for our food. If you’re alone and need some company, Kelly is there to chat and lift your spirits with his booming voice, and Heather will keep you laughing endlessly! I had so much fun that, when the food arrived—after about an hour—I didn’t even notice the wait. The dishes were hot and packed with flavor. I ended up feeling full and pleasantly buzzed. What was once touted as the worst restaurant in Cocoa Beach surprisingly became my favorite! It had a local vibe, with owners and staff embodying the laid-back beach atmosphere of Florida.
