The majority of the meats were delicious, especially the marinated short rib. All of the sides were subpar besides the complementary green onion pancake. Any drinks including water is an additional charge. Unless you're planning on eating a lot of meats, it's WAY too expensive for dinner. The 4 stars is for how delicious the short ribs were. Otherwise I'd rate 3 stars. View all feedback.
What Clarabelle Kerluke doesn't like about Shila Korean BBQ:
The food was okay. Not great. The sides were sad and could use more tlc. I haven’t been to a Korean bbq since before Covid and well idk if the styrofoam cups are because of that but my experience wasn’t amazing and I would go eat somewhere else than come back to this place. It’s too expensive for the lack luster food. The waiter and staff were nice and friendly. The food just wasn’t great View all feedback.
We are new to Korean BBQ and found this place quite pleasant. Let 's take this step by step discussing in detail. Salad bar area: the only items I grabbed were fresh onions, zucchini and garlic to grill with the meat, the cucumbers (which were super salty and I am a heavy handed salt user) and the cold noodle dish which was ok. I regret not going back and trying the other stuff. My daughter loved the kimchi! The meat portions were very generous in comparison to other places I have been to. Other Korean BBQ restaurant 's that we have been to only had two flavored meat options. This place served the most seasoned meat selection that we have seen. We tried all meats on the lunch menu and the squid was very fresh tasting. My only complaint was I am a spicy person and there was no option to add spice other than jalapeño, some sort of chile oil or sriracha would have been delicious. It was definitely my fault for not asking for any of it is something they do have. Other than that everything tasted great. SMALL PORTIONS ARE AN OPTION... The sauce plate : the white sesame oil had a really good flavor and it 's my favorite thing to add to rice w salt and pepper. The other liquid was slightly sweet and went really well with some of the unflavored meats! Silken egg was super just a beautifully lucious texture and it was really enjoyed. At home I dress it up a little more, but this was good. Tofu soup: I had one piece of tofu in my tofu soup and about a half cup of mushrooms. I wish there was a little more balance, but other wise it was good. Service: We had a young female server who was very attentive, explained everything well, and was prompt with items needed. Her service was well appreciated. Grill itself: I asked to turn the heat up and the server promptly did. Our grills were replaced often and without us asking her to. Cleanliness: the restaurant was very clean. WOULD WE RETURN? Absolutely!!
I've been to a lot of kbbq places in my life but man by far is this one the worst one I've been to. It used to be better when it first opened but now that I've come back to try it again, it's not good at all. First they didn't let us sit even though more than half of our party was there. It was a completely empty restaurant when we got there. I understand why. Asked for water and they gave us each one water bottle. They charge you $1 for each bottle of water, so you're better off just bringing your own. Which is ridiculous. What kind of restaurant doesn't just give free water? This is my first time being charged for water. The bottle was cold but didn't even bother to bring cups of ice or anything. The meats itself just weren't good at all. You can definitely taste the low quality of meat they used. The marinade and flavor of the bulgogi was just not good. The bonchon was also not fresh at all. They came in pre made containers that tasted like things were sitting in the fridge for a few days. Im pretty sure the cucumber went bad and yet they still gave it to us. Everything else was mediocre. Service was subpar, didn't really check on us but still had to do automatic 18% gratuity because I had more than 6 in our party. Understand why this place is so low rated, it's just not good at all. The ventilation in there wasn't good either, it was smokey for the whole night and looking around it was just my party and 2 other tables. Definitely will Not be coming back.
If you are charging $35 per person. Have the decency to buy new plates when the old ones get scratched up and have stains. Also, I'm pretty sure those exhaust vents are clogged or not working. Whoever is running this place is not putting in the effort to maintain the facility. Meat quality: USDA choice and below. Sides: definitely over a week old not freshly made radish is soggy. Cucumber is soggy. Kimchi is a mush! Soup is from instant noodle packet! Protip: Vegetables are suppose to be crunchy! Service: Acceptable Something is wrong if you need to charge 4% for credit card fee to stay afloat with $35 pp and 18% gratuity. $1 for water and $13 for soju. Fiancé and I can't even get through the first round. The meats are tough, marinade was salty definitely left in too long and the sides are mush! Beyond inedible! Throw out the old food don't serve it to customers!!! The whole place screams health department!!!
A friend recommended Shila as a good option for KBBQ. I visited as a group of 5 on a weekday for dinner and was seated right away. They only take reservations for parties greater than 10 people. For dinner, price is $35 per person. The selection and quality of meats is great. You can get refills of ban chan. The service was attentive. They changed our grills frequently without us needing to request. Things that could be improved upon: The restaurant was incredibly smoky. It didn't seem like any of the exhaust fans were on. Ban chan was served in small styrofoam containers. Each person is charged for a water bottle. They give you a cup filled with ice. These two seem like holdovers from the pandemic. I find the use of styrofoam containers wasteful when small bowls could be used.
As good as it can be for Fresno! The inside is generally pretty clean and the service is pretty good every time I go. They have separate lunch and dinner items prices. However, on the weekends, you just pay the dinner price and have access to the dinner items. $33 per person. It is important to keep in mind that you also have to pay for drinks, even if it's water! They only provide bottles of water, so you do have to pay a $1 for water with no free refills which is a bummer. They have a variety of banchan (side dishes they offer (i.e. radish kimichi, cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi, japchae, and korean potato salad, etc. however, they do come in small styrofoam cups. While they are small, they are unlimited and the servers are also willing to bring extra! Additionally, they offer sides such as: tofu soup, steamed egg, and steamed rice! All of which are unlimited as well! Their tofu soup is literally to die for. I dream about that soup. It's the perfect spice level for me and is a great pairing for the meal. I easily put away two of these during my Shila outings. They also provide a complimentary pajeon at the start of the meal which is yummy. You can also get extra of those if you ask nicely. As for the meat, I think they offer a great selection. They have all your kbbq classics! You can pick 3 meats at a time and they check in every so often to ask if you want another round. Note: if you don't finish all your meat, you do have to pay an extra cost! I haven't been to other korean bbq places outside of Fresno, so for me, this place is pretty good! Since this place is pricy, it's even more incentive to eat your weight and food to get your money's worth tbh. I enjoy my time here and it's always such a fun experience when I come here with friends or family.
