Was Eva Roca at Maydan a mag?
Maydan has renewed my faith in dining out. It's often the case that when I go to a restaurant, I find one or two redeeming qualities—maybe the food or the atmosphere or the service—but then I'm hit with a shocking bill at the end. What african ghana dislikes about Maydan:
This place used to be 10 stars out of 5 when they opened and I had been there twice in Jan/Feb 2020. That was 4 years ago.Today it is not the same. Everything that got them that Michelin star has changed down to their bread formula. Please try it out but please know you are getting the post-covid maydan and not the pre-covid maydan much like every other restaurant out there.Skip the hummus, cous cous. Go for the carro... Maydan has renewed my faith in dining out. It's often the case that when I go to a restaurant, I find one or two redeeming qualities—maybe the food or the atmosphere or the service—but then I'm hit with a shocking bill at the end. At Maydan, however, everything comes together perfectly. The food is delicious and thoughtfully prepared, not just relying on salt and fat for flavor. The atmosphere is enchanting, the service is friendly and warm, and the drinks menu features unique wines and spirits that you don't see everywhere. Best of all, the bill felt like a great value for such an exceptional experience. Rose and her team have truly created something remarkable, and I'm thrilled that we finally had the chance to try it.
The wood fire roasted meats were sensational. The spreads and dips tantalizing with every bite. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys food from the Levant. Servers were friendly and knowledgeable and prioritized your exceptional experience. Dietary restrictions: Most items on the menu are gluten free and clearly marked. Desserts are often rotated but the servers are happy to provide options.
AVOID THE OUTDOOR SEATING. The "patio" is a narrow, covered tent with minimal airflow. It pales in comparison to the immersive and captivating interior seating; you miss out on half the unique experience that Maydan provides. The food, however, was exceptional, and there was so much that almost everyone leaving had leftovers. The service was decent, but again, the outdoor seating caused some delays in that area.
For drinks, I enjoyed two lovely glasses of Lebanese wine that the bartender recommended and let me sample. We capped off the evening with some Arak, which was a nice touch. I had visited Maydan once before but didn’t get the full experience due to an enthusiastic happy hour, so I was thrilled to come back this time and savor the food with my senses fully engaged. It was definitely worth the return!
We hosted a rehearsal dinner for 20 guests at Maydan and could not have been happier with the food and service. Bo did an extraordinary job working with us in the months leading up to the event and was there the night of ensuring that everything went to plan. All of our guests were blown away by the quality and variety of the dishes we were served and the service was absolutely flawless (which is a difficult task with a party so large). We would highly recommend Maydan as a location for a larger group meal and certainly plan on visiting the restaurant for dinner in the near future.
Maydan, a Michelin-starred gem, has garnered mixed reviews lately. While some patrons reminisce about its previous glory, many are captivated by its enchanting atmosphere and delectable Levantine cuisine. Signature dishes like wood-fire roasted meats and unique spreads shine, while the attentive, friendly service enhances the experience. Guests appreciate the thoughtful drink selection, particularly the Lebanese wines. However, the outdoor seating lacks the immersive charm of the interior. For those considering a visit, reservations are advisable, especially for larger groups. Overall, despite some inconsistencies, Maydan remains a noteworthy destination for an exceptional dining experience.
