I live in Austin and know what authentic Central Texas BBQ should taste like. Mad Jack's definitely served some of the best BBQ in the area. The brisket, sausages, and turkey had a delicious bark with a peppery flavor and were still moist. Everything was incredibly tasty and the prices were reasonable. They start running out of popular items at 3:00, but we were able to take some leftovers home and make fantastic bre... View all feedback.
What Brian Tropp doesn't like about Mad Jack's Mountain Barbecue:
Save your self and except that the sliced brisket a couple doors down with no wait is very comparable. The wait I found is not worth it. But hey the lady at alsups said people are on vacation and enjoy waiting. I disagree. The employees are super nice but no one is in a hurry. We tried both briskets side by side (a couple doors down) and found they are very much close to the same. Got to stay though, they will cut of... View all feedback.
2 years ago at a visit to the family. I love bbq, but that was by far the best I've ever eaten. it is very popular as people begin to stand in the line before the doors open to make sure they get a brisket before it runs out. the owner is only too happy to cook with everyone. eat so well, I would consider flying from my house on the east coast to amarillo texas, rent a car and drive the several hours drive to eat only some. to happiness I have a family a few hours away and cloud croft is a beautiful city. but do not tell my family, they think I will go there to see them!
It is a big BBQ spot would be an understatement. bold and tasty aromen. the whole meat cooked the same day. all sides are fresh. coleslaw was a bit watered for my lust. but literally everything else was fantastic! dino ribs were probably my favorites. but not the big bone. get the lower rib to get more bang for her buck. the actual rib bone probably weighs 1lb. dino bone aka bark rib, a bit overpriced after my opinion. final judgment. I'll be back for more!
I'm not a big brisket dinner. I never liked it until I came here. So I went up the mountain, because it's 10 degrees cooler and I wanted to cool down. I see this crazy line and I think “I would never stand in the line for a restaurant”. but every time I went to cloudcroft, it was again: the line. so I made a day my way back to the mountain (10 degrees colder it put at 29 with a fleeting wind.) I am there at 10:30 clock and there were 50 people before me. I try the briske. Moist, great tasteful bark. the pulled booze was delicious. the ribs were fantastic. I understand why there are those who say that this is the best in nm. it was worth waiting. since my first time, I've been around half a dozen more. regardless of when they come there, there will be an hour (on a Saturday or Sunday from December to april.)
Beautiful Atmosphere and nothing but delicious food hands down! ??
Went for a Saturday drive from El Paso up to Cloudcroft and saw the line zig zag down the ramp and into the parking lot for lunch Mad Jack's BBQ. Thought, ok, lets try this place. Had to park some distance away and walk to the restaurant and then wait in line for about an hour. Nice sunny day, 48 degrees, snow on the ground. With this big a rush for lunch we were expecting big delays in service, but really was not that bad, waitress was pleasant and made us feel very welcomed. We enjoyed the atmosphere, country feeling, and the food was better than any major BBQ place in El Paso. Well worth the drive and wait in line to eat BBQ flavor like this. Obviously the owner puts a lot of knowledge, pride, and love in his BBQ.
