My wife and I were on our way back from a mini Labor Day vacation and stopped for lunch on our way back home. We wanted to try something different, so we went a little out of the way and had lunch at the Hickory House in Cleveland. We arrived around noon and since they were following protocols, only half of the normal seating was available. We found one of the only tables open. Most of the diners seemed to be locals.... What Destiny Deshay doesn't like about Grandpa's Lounge:
Super disgusting and bland 50 down the drain and my family gave it too my dog cause it reminded us of hospital/nursing home food I was hoping for it too be good but it was super disappointing and maybe it was a off day but I don’t know.. I would definitely choose Hickory House over this place View all feedback.
The bartender wouldn't let me crawl out to my car instead he gave me a scooter to drive home
We were hungry and decided to eat some good country small town cooking. We arrived 45 minutes before closing on a Friday evening. We were seated by a friendly waitress. After looking at menu we both decided on country fried steak. Our feeling how can you mess up country fried steak ina country restaurant. We both had a salad from the small salad bar when our meal arrived. Swimming in white gravy and grease I tried to cut this tough raw steak, it was awful. One bite made everything taste like rancid grease even the roll. Out from behind the cook area steps a sweaty unclean dude. We got up, packed a to go box with a specimen in it. At the cashier desk my wife said our meal was awful, the shocked cashier asked why and my wife showed her the specimen and she said no charge. We could not leave fast enough. They do have good tea. Skip this backwards country restaurant, it is a nightmare

We arrived around noon and since they were following protocols, only half of the normal seating was available. We found one of the only tables open. Most of the diners seemed to be locals. They serve breakfast all day. They were having several lunch specials. I had the chicken fried steak sandwich fries. My wife had the french toast. We both had iced tea. Both of our meals were good. The chicken fry was definitely hand battered and not a frozen product. Both meals only came up to $15, so the prices were pretty low for what you got. Nice little home town diner.
My fiancé and I stopped in after a long day for a meal. The waitress was fantastic and made sure everything was great for us experience wise. However, once we got our food the app was literally sitting in grease. The burger was paper thin, I got a hamburger steak well done and I got it rare with the toothpick still inside. I asked to remake which they did, but took to long so I had to take it to go. When I got home I found another toothpick in the middle of the burger.
This place was rated as the number 1 restaurant in Cleveland. I’d hate to eat at #14! It wasn’t bad, it was far from exceptional. Except the service and very friendly staff were exceptional. The catfish dinner was frozen prebreaded restaurant fare. Taters were instant, gravy was box mix, my wife’s burger was good and sported a toasted bun, salad bar was ok. If your expectations are for an ok lunch, this the place!
