What Kristoffer Carroll doesn't like about Firehouse Subs Clayton:
For a better sandwich, I recommend heading to Harris Teeter or Lowe's Deli. Jersey Mike's also offers a much better alternative. Overall, I've had better sandwiches at Subway than I did here. While the staff provided good service, the food quality left much to be desired. View all feedback.

The food is excellent, and I understand that the restaurant isn't primarily known for gluten-free options. However, they do offer gluten-free bread, which we ordered online but unfortunately did not receive. This is particularly concerning as it affects someone with celiac disease rather than just gluten intolerance. It was quite empty at the time, so there wasn’t a busy atmosphere to excuse the mistake. It's important to get orders right, especially when it comes to people's health. We've dined here for lunch before, and the staff have been very accommodating to those with celiac disease, so it seems this may have been an isolated incident.
I’ve only been to Firehouse a couple of times because I find their prices to be quite high. Typically, I have to order extra meat just to get a decent sandwich. They do have daily specials that my friends ordered, and those seemed to be more filling than my pricier choice. The sandwich I had was tasty and made to my specifications, but honestly, the bread was the standout feature. Unfortunately, the person taking orders during my visit provided poor customer service. When I approached the counter, there was no greeting, and he didn’t say a word while I was trying to decide what to order. He just seemed uninterested. These elements affected my overall rating. On a positive note, the restaurant was clean, and other diners looked like they were enjoying their meals, as did my friends. It was lunchtime during the workweek, and there was a steady flow of customers coming in.
This experience was nearly as disappointing as dining at Subway. While the staff was excellent, Firehouse Subs falls short in terms of meat quality. The prime rib and roast beef were overcooked; these cuts should ideally be served red and rare. The bread is also subpar, and there’s hardly any variety to choose from. The banana peppers lacked both spice and flavor. To mask the poor quality, they compensate by slathering on sauces like garlic mayo. I would recommend visiting Harris Teeter or Lowe's Deli for far superior sandwiches; even Jersey Mike's is a much better option. Typically, store delis provide better-quality meats for the best sandwiches. Honestly, I’ve had better sandwiches from Subway than what I experienced today. Once again, while the staff was wonderful, it’s clear that there’s a lack of oversight from the Firehouse management team.
We ordered four subs, all of which we expected to be hot. Since we were just picking them up for baseball practice, we didn't stay to eat. When we got to the park and opened our containers, we discovered that all the subs were cold—none were hot or even warm. Additionally, my son's turkey sandwich had cheese on it despite the fact that my receipt clearly instructed no cheese. I tried calling the restaurant, but the voicemail box was full, so I decided to return in person to address the issue. The manager was very pleasant and promptly made a new, larger sandwich for my son. I appreciated his friendly demeanor, and it seemed that our initial experience might have just been a misunderstanding. They recognized me and were very helpful in resolving the situation. I plan to give them another chance, as I truly value good customer service, as my Google reviews reflect.
