Our meal was delicious, and our server was fantastic. The only downside was a strong odor reminiscent of a restroom that permeated a large portion of the main dining area. View all feedback.
What Tony I doesn't like about The Pointe Grill:
"Under new management now. The view and the live band are really enjoyable, but unfortunately, the food was quite disappointing. I paid $12.79 for just six wings, and the limes were old. Overall, I left feeling very let down compared to my experiences at the previous restaurant.".
We are new to the area and have visited here two times, so far. Both times were very nice. We had the back room that faces the water to ourselves. Our wait staff was very friendly and helpful, taking care of requests with smiles. Both times I had the Cobb salad, which was amazing. Crispy, green luttuce, onions, cheese, eggs, and crispy chicken on top. Very tasty. My husband had fish tacos both times and very much enjoyed them. The place looked clean. The bathrooms were nice. The only thing is, they're a little pricey. We will return here.
Stopped in to try out the new menu. It's streamlined with lower price points/options. Entrees are priced lower but do not include a salad. Rolls are still included. Perch (one of my faves) was discontinued but there was still a nice variety to choose from. Pictures of new menu posted. Service was outstanding. We had some issues with food quality in the past but everything was awesome this time. My wife had the Black/Blue Steak Salad. Very nicely done New York Strip Steak. I had the Smoked Chicken Pasta. The spicy tomato sauce gave it just the right bite for me. The wine selection is great and very reasonably priced. I hope our positive experience is typical going forward. Definitely worth a shot. We saw many positive changes and were very encouraged.
The Pointe may be a bit on the pricier side for the Jackson area, but the food justifies the price pointe (pun intended). As a native Jacksonian, when I think of Clark Lake, it's either Beach Bar or The Pointe. Beach Bar is for your moderately priced drinks and food. It's a more laid back atmosphere. The Pointe is the classier of the two, as it sits right on the lake with a small dock for boaters to port and get some good grub. There's almost three layers to the place. First is the main dining area (with a partitioned wall separating the bar and the other seating) that leads into an windowed enclosure for those who want to look out onto the lake but want their creature comforts (i.e., air conditioning). Finally, one can sit in the patio area right on the lake for the best view. This is five stars if reviewed on aesthetics alone. I had their white fish entree, which was cooked in light butter and had a flaky crust. It was very good. Their bread rolls, however, are the main event some of the best I've ever eaten. However, the price point veers closer to a mid tier restaurant in Ann Arbor, but without quite the same quality to justify it. Also, the mark up on the wine is steeper than other comparable restaurants for the same wineries and types (I think I paid $11 for a glass of Riesling). If I'm looking for a more sightly and higher class affair, it's the Pointe. When I'm looking for good drinks and good (and greasy) food, I'll do Beach Bar.
Where the drink menu has prices but they are completely arbitrary and change several times in the same visit without ever being what the menu actually says. Strangely $5 drinks were $5.50 and $6.25 (see pictures of menu and receipt) this has happened on two separate occasions and no adjustments or apologies were made on either occasion. Food is much better than any time I have been in the past with Daryl at the helm. Music is good (Benny Poole)... Atmosphere is great.
Wanted to come so we could sit on the water and enjoy some food. We requested a specific table and were informed it just needed to be cleaned off. We were told we could sit at another table until they cleaned it off. Well, no one ever cleaned it off and then another group was sat at that same table. Not a great start. Service was pretty slow, but at least our server attempted to make up for it with his super-friendly attitude. But the food was awesome! Appetizer, bread, and entree were all on pointe (pun intended). I would return, hoping that the seating and service is better next time.
