We visited the Doherty Hotel Tavern for some appetizers and cocktails. The ambiance was lovely, and the portion sizes were generous! We tried the fried pickles, which were the best I've ever had. The calamari was expertly cooked. I highly recommend this place! View all feedback.
What John Alhelm doesn't like about Doherty Motor:
I had one of the worst dining experiences ever at this restaurant. The food was not good at all, and the service left much to be desired; the waitress was actually arguing in front of the customers. I had to nearly stand up and shout just to get a soda refill. Next time, I think I’ll take my wife to McDonald's instead, where the service and food are much better. View all feedback.
The rooms were beautiful, but nothing imagination.. Some of us called ahead to check in the time we had to change for a wedding. Then when we arrived many of us in our big group, we had to wait up to 2 hours (5:00) to check. The rooms had no coffee pots or ice cups or even cups for a drink of water. In the morning there was a coffee pot in the middle without cups a sm pitcher warm milk that looked like it was there all night. For the price of the rooms I feel it should have been something extras. Also some guests were NOT given their gift bags from the bridal room at check-in. Disappointed!
Stopped for lunch while we charged at the supercharger on-site. The hot sandwiches were terrific! Meatloaf was thick and tasty. Turkey was moist and plentiful. Both served over bread with real mashed potatoes smothered in gravy. Service was prompt and pleasant. Prices very reasonable. $12 for the hot sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy.
I have to say, I've never seen a staff work so hard to make your stay nice! From Dean bussing tables to the incredible bar room staff. Rooms are a little outdated but clean. The food was excellent. My friend had the biggest best fried shrimp we've seen in a while. My Fish and Chips were great. Great Irish ambiance in the bar. Who has Harp on Tap? The Doherty!
This was our first time staying at Hotel Doherty. The rooms were extremely clean! A tad outdated, but clean and the beds very comfortable! The dining was amazing and the service was nothing less than outstanding! There are tons of places to sit inside and outside to enjoy the evening and it is centered in the Clare Downtown area! The history behind this facility is very interesting! We loved learning about it and talking with some of the staff. We will be visiting again!
Although I did not stay overnight at the Dougherty hotel, my daughter treated me to dinner on July 3rd in the evening. We had an excellent server! I ordered a full slab of spare rib dinner and was very disappointed and should have sent it back, but I ended up having them boxed up and I brought home (3 hours away) for my husband to eat. The ribs were not baby back ribs like I had presumed they would be; they were tough and they were stringy, so I ate the French fries and the side salad and that was my meal along with an appetizer. I was very disappointed and the price of the rib dinner was $30. I hope they get some better ribs on stock .
