Description

Nestled within a charming furniture store, this restaurant offers a unique atmosphere, highlighted by mismatched decor and a spacious book area. However, reviews reveal a mixed experience for diners. While some praised the pleasant outdoor seating and attentive staff, others were disappointed by slow service, disorganization, and limited menu options. The food, including toasties and sweets, received varied feedback—ranging from delightful to subpar, with notable criticisms of certain dishes like the carbonara. Though cleanliness and safety measures were appreciated, a lack of consistency in service and food quality may lead diners to explore alternative venues.

I have frequented this restaurant for lunch or coffee often when I am in the area. The staff have adapted seamlessly to the new Covid restrictions. During my recent visit, I felt very safe. I appreciate the new system of food being brought to your table instead of having to wait in line at the counter, which can result in the food getting cold during busy times before being seated. I suggest continuing this system as we slowly ease out of restrictions.

I was thrilled to dine at a restaurant/cafe again after the lockdown. The atmosphere was peaceful and they were adhering to Covid regulations. The staff was attentive and the dining experience was hassle-free. I ordered a toasted Brie sandwich, a fruit slice, and an Irn Bru. Although the total cost of around £9 seemed a bit steep for what I had, I was glad it was just me eating as feeding a whole family here would be quite expensive! The interior was immaculate and the option for outdoor seating was also available.

We ordered 3 sausage rolls and were disappointed with the poor quality sausage (2 links) and not so fresh rolls for myself and my friends. Before the lockdown, we used to enjoy a nice sausage roll with 3 links and fresh rolls. It seems like someone else has taken over running this place, as the quality has significantly decreased. We have not returned since and do not plan to in the future. Additionally, the menu no longer offers the same choices as before.

A friend and I visited. The staff were lovely and all that we ate and drank was great soup, sandwich, toastie and tea. The new covid 19 processes are clearly in place but don't detract from the warm welcome.

I love you Sterling Mills but for this week 's Friday lunch you are missing the mark. Your staff, although willing, appeared to be completely overwhelmed by the early lunch time diners. Limited choice was an exaggeration no veggie/special dietary choice at all. I don 't mind being advised that a freshly cooked gammon steak will be at least a ten minute wait, but when the complete meal arrives barely warm, on a cold plate, no excuse. It looked congealed and forgotten about. My money was refunded easily enough as we couldn 't wait another ten minutes for a freshly cooked gammon steak. Something went badly wrong in the kitchen or are the staff struggling.Because I 'm local and I love Sterling Mills please make a decision, limit further the numbers of diners that can be managed with good hot food as was your usual standard, or have a good long hard look at what 's going wrong between the front of house staff and kitchen staff. If as much attention to service was given to the constant sanitising of hands between every customer, service might resume to a quicker level. I know these are difficult times but it 's disappointing to leave the Mill Cafe hungry and disappointed in search of a better lunch option.Apologies, it will be a long long time before I visit again, this was my first since you reopened, needs to be addressed.
