very good classic afternoon in a beautiful and bright environment. the service is polite, but not the warmest. the food was delicious, they have an interesting selection of tees. the room is quiet and the tables are not too close to each other, which is always beautiful. we had a nice time! What User doesn't like about The Goring Afternoon Tea:
generally a good visit, but a few tweaks could dramatically improve the dings. 1. supplying the three afternoon tea elements at the same time means that due to the time they come into the terrace items like the opernkuchen is warm and unpleasant in the sun coming through the conservatory roof. 2. five different bakes for a table of two to serve is a strange mix with someone who fights over a single object. yes I am a... We had booked High Tea for a baby shower at The Goring Hotel. However when we arrived to the Hotel the table was not ready. The staff asked us to wait for a hour before we got seated. And then another hour before 80% of our group got their High Tea. The mum to be unfortunate needed to wait 1.5 hour before she got her food. And at that point 2 people from the party unfortunately needed to leave as they had waited 2.5 hours from when we originally had booked the table and needed to catch a train! I cannot recommend this place to anyone!
We were extremely disappointed with our high tea experience at this restaurant. Despite having made a reservation months in advance, our table was not ready when we arrived. We were asked to wait in the lounge room for 20-30 minutes without any explanation or apology. Even after being seated, we had to wait an additional 10 minutes before being offered a glass of water. The food, ambiance, and location were all lovely, as expected. The servers we interacted with were pleasant, but the overall service experience was not satisfactory for us.
I went to this restaurant for a birthday breakfast with my mother-in-law that had been pre-arranged. When we arrived, we were met with an empty room and no mention of our reservation or birthday request. The setting was nice, but there are better restaurants out there that offer a more satisfying experience and meet customer expectations. Regrettably, I do not plan on returning.
My husband and I decided to have a late afternoon tea at 6pm and we had a wonderful experience. It was our first time having afternoon tea and our server, Emily, was absolutely delightful. She was extremely helpful, kept us entertained and made sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend this place for a luxurious afternoon tea that doesn't feel snobbish!
Make sure to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a place. This site will compare countless booking websites and typically will have prices much cheaper than others! Thank me later! This place is one of the most well known in the area. I have been coming here for years. If you stay for a few days you won't regret it. We went for afternoon tea, which was brilliant, endless supplies of tea, sandwiches, scones and cakes. The service was OK, good on arrival and then tailed off a bit. The setting, the conservatory, was lovely and it had all the refinement you would expect from a top class London hotel.
