We last reviewed this restaurant in 2019 but believe it has since changed hands. Then, it was a first rate place to eat Chinese just off Leicester Square. We had eaten there several times always left replete and happy. The service was excellent, the atmosphere had a timeless sophistication the food was freshly prepared delicious. What Alan Rodriguez doesn't like about Joy King Lau:
Having lived in China and Hong Kong for 20 years I hope that I am a reasonable judge of Chinese food and consider that the quality served at Joy King Lau at the lower end of acceptable. Should score 3 stars but...what was not acceptable was the surly, rude service. Food was not served more thrown on the table. Dishes attempted to be cleared before we had finished. Excellent restaurant with great food and good service. good atmosphere with many rooms to eat. the hotel is located in a central opposite in the heart of london.
I have visited this restaurant since 1991 and is used to be excellent however after I had visited a family of 5 yesterday, I felt honestly demolished and very disappointed. service was soulless and warned worse, although the food quality has beaten - my favorite Chinese dish is singapur rice vermicelli and this had hardly any of the traditional ingredients hug meat and garnel) the taste was bad and there was practically zero fresh vegetables (bit the two-sty steer clear is my recommendation, our meal was three singapur nuts and weded three
Delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine, great service also. Honeycombs are crispy seetang, crispy noodles with sweet, salt and pfeffer tofu, sweet in black bonswe come here for over 30 years and love it.
Was already here a few times - good yum cha, good variety and reasonable prices. my favorites are the meat croquets, the black boron and garlic buzz ribs and the teig stick cheung fun, but there is something for everyone! only the cache to see is the line - there is always a snuck at the waking, but fortunately it moves pretty fast!
Chinatown is a plethora for Chinese cooking and despite the original flair of every storefront, it does start to feel a bit homogenous. Its hard to know whats good and whats bad when it all starts to mould into the same. Joy King Lau has been around since the 90s and the name means a place where people can get together to eat eat and drink. It was most appropriate as a meeting ground for our little group catchup. One of the group had been before and said it was good. We ordered a mix of dim sum (dumplings, pork bun), sweet and sour pork 8.50) and the fried rice noodles 8). It was all quite good, the sweet and sour pork less so. The sauce was a bit gluggy and the pieces were...read more
