After walking 12 miles from Sansepolcro, we arrived tired and only wanted a comfortable place to stay. To our great fortune, we were reminded what we had missed most about traveling, finding that unexpected gem where everything comes together perfectly to create a unique experience. The owners were most gracious and helpful during our stay. The rooms were clean. The country setting meant it was quiet and peaceful. Then we come to dinner. A home cooked Tuscan meal where thought and care went into every dish. The first course was homemade pasta with a delicious ragu. The second course was pork tenderloin with a balsamic glaze and a refreshing salad of local greens. The meal ended with a light tiramisu that was a perfect complement to what had come before. The house wine was delicious. The music was perfect for the setting. Our fatigue was gone and replaced with bliss. When exploring the area, you would do well to seek out this gem, meet the owners and sample the fantastic cuisine.

This is a remarkable place! I have stayed in a lot of locanda and hotels in Italy, but this is more like a conference center in a gorgeous location on the boundary between Tuscany and Umbria. It probably has the capacity for 120 people, but on my visit I was the only guest! The rooms have been redone with the most amazing dark beautiful wood for cabinets and doors that you can imagine. The bathrooms are redone as well and beautifully. The ground floor is huge as you can imagine with a living room and dining area to seat a large group but with glass going out onto the terrace. The rooms are upstairs on two levels. But I suppose the nicest thing about the place was that Mauro, the caretaker was so gracious to me. I called ahead and he said he would wait for me to arrive because he's literally the only person here. When I arrived he carried my suitcase upstairs because I had a sprained ankle. Then he offered to get me some water and offered to take me up into town a couple hours later which is about a 5-minute drive up several hundred meters so that I could look around despite my twisted ankle. He graciously took me and picked me up again an hour later. Then he cooked dinner just for me which was delicious. I had pasta that he himself made without egg from water and flour seasoned with herbs from the garden and tomatoes and olive oil. It was delicious. Then he gave me a delicious salad with pork loin medallions smothered in honey and balsamic vinegar. What a treat! The music playing was soothing and romantic and my only regret is that there weren't other friends of mine there to share it with me. But I have nothing but good things to say about this place!
