**Review: A Homely Delight at Hyde Park Hitching Post**
Hyde Park Hitching Post is a charming restaurant celebrating hearty, home-cooked meals. Renowned for its delicious chicken and waffles, the menu also features standout dishes like goetta and cheese omelettes, fried chicken, and country-fried steak. Patrons appreciate the friendly service and cozy ambiance, reminiscent of beloved family gatherings. While some sides, like mashed potatoes, could use enhancement, the overall dining experience is enhanced by reasonable prices and a welcoming atmosphere. Though decor may need a refresh, it remains a treasured local spot ideal for breakfast, brunch, or a relaxed meal with family.

The fried chicken at this restaurant is fantastic, along with the potato pancakes and pie. The fried chicken is just as it should be—simple yet delicious, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. However, the mashed potatoes fell a bit short in quality. The green beans are from a can, but considering the prices, that’s understandable. Personally, I enjoy dipping the potato pancakes in applesauce. It was my first time trying fried green tomatoes, and they were excellent. I do think the portion sizes could be a bit larger for what you pay, though. The atmosphere has a very basic country kitchen feel, likely not updated since it opened. It’s not a romantic or fancy spot, but the food is good, and the decor is refreshingly honest. Hyde Park Hitching Post doesn’t serve alcohol, giving off a 'home cooking' vibe, though the side dishes could use some improvement. On a positive note, the service is friendly.
Firstly, while their chicken isn't the best I've ever tasted, it's definitely good. My husband really liked his sandwich and rated it 4.5 stars. I found my chicken dinner to be enjoyable, but the mashed potatoes and gravy were the highlight for me. My daughter mentioned that her chicken ranch sandwich was also good. Our waitress was fantastic, and the atmosphere felt cozy and welcoming. We plan to return another time to try some pie.
The service was nice, the food was delicious, especially if you like home cooked-tasting food. The cheesecake looked so good, but it was a little thick and plasticy, at least me and my family thought. The fried chicken, the sandwiches, and the country fried steaks were just the bomb!

We enjoyed this place !!!!! The food came out in a timely manner, my husband ordered the lunch special double deluxe hamburger, my son got the grilled cheese and fruit, and for myself I got their famous chicken slaw and mashed potatoes ! All of the food was delicious. The only hold back from getting five stars for me was the decorations above our table where we were eating were covered in dust, and the floor in the section that we were sitting in was filthy salad al over the floor and trash. The restaurant was not busy at all because we visited at 1-1:30. I think a little touch of clean up and this place would get 5 stars.
Very homely atmosphere. The wait staff makes you feel right at home. Lots of good choices on the menu. I tried the chicken wings with the sweet sauce and was very pleased
Fried chicken here is delicious, like the potato pancakes and the cakes. the fried chicken is as it should be- simple and tasty, crispy and juicy. the carrots leave something to be desired. the green beans are skillful and this is okay for the price. Personally, I like to dip the potato pancakes in the apfelsauce. it was my first time to experience fried green tomaten and they tasted excellent. I feel that the portion size would have been more definitiw for the price. the atmosphere is very simple land kitchen, moat probably not rebuilt as it was opened. it is not a romantic place, it is not a beautiful place, but eating is good and the decor is not trying to be something that it is not. the new park post does not serve alcohol. there is the feeling that it should be home cooking, but the sides have room for improvement. the service is friendly.
I absolutely love this place! The prices are reasonable, the food is delicious, and it has a cozy, homelike atmosphere reminiscent of Grandma's house. I always order the country fried steak because it’s so tasty. They also offer a rewards program that’s even better than those at more popular restaurants. It’s truly a great local favorite!
I've never had anything bad here, everything has been very good with excellent service. The food is always good and the pies are excellent to. I just had breakfast there and I had baby calves liver and onions with Amish potato salad and coleslaw also a dinner roll . A great meal by itself . Also My favorite thing is chicken livers and chicken gravy with a dinner roll. Enjoy
