Amazing food! Highly recommend getting any of the Okonomiyaki, they’re perfect and definitely something I had never had before. The guy here is honestly the sweetest too and the prices are amazing for Wellington. 10/10 everyone go eat there!

Since I lived in Japan for half a decade, people often ask me “What’s the most *authentic* Japanese food in Wellington?” And I’m here to tell you it’s Tontory’s unpretentious lunch counter fare, equal in taste (and price! to what you might get at the most casual of places in any given town in Japan. Note the 5 stars and you’ll know this is by no means a bad thing. In fact, it’s the only place in town that can hit certain cravings for simple, homemade Japanese food. Curious where to start? Grab the curry, a huge portion for $10 with a flavor like you’re visiting a friend.

I had great okonomiyaki and chicken curry. They are not the best of best. But it is affordable price and good quality of meal : And owner was nice and helpful.
