Description

Virgils received mixed reviews, with some diners praising the Memphis BBQ ribs while others were disappointed with the Texas BBQ brisket. The service was generally good, with attentive servers and tasty octopus and steak. However, there were complaints about lack of COVID-19 protocol enforcement and slow service at the bar. On the other hand, Tortoise Supper Club received glowing reviews for its warm welcome, exceptional service, delicious food, and classic supper club ambiance. Diners were impressed with the menu, cocktails, and overall experience. Overall, Tortoise Supper Club seemed to offer a more consistently positive dining experience compared to Virgils.

A warm friendly bar and resturant hidden in the heart of chicago, excellent cocktails, amazing food with live music on Friday and Saturday its a step back in time when things were simpler but yet the greateast era in our lives. Its my favorite goto place downtown for an great old fashion, hot garlic butter bread and beef wellington is top notch with stellar service tha leaves nothing to compare. Cant wait to go again. Went here for Valentines Day 2026, the evening spent here was almost perfect. Our waiter, Florentine was amazing, and the food was great. What ruined the experience was receiving the final bill. I paid $80 for the reservation through Tock. On the confirmation page it’s states “your deposit secures your booking and will be applied to your final bill”. The $80 was not deducted from the bill. I spoke to manager, and was told it will be refunded back to me. That’s not what’s listed on the confirmation page. It is very misleading, and it’s falsely represents the overall experience I was hoping for. So a heads up to patrons who come here, what you pay as a deposit will not be deducted from your final bill as promised. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The in-laws recommended Tortoise Supper Club for our holiday family dinner and I am so glad they did. The food was impeccable. I got the beef wellington and it's one of the best I have had in the states. My father in-law always orders the prime rib which was cooked to his perfection. Our server was a delight. She made sure we never went without. The atmosphere is what you would expect and want out of a historic supper club. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I was completely blown away. This place was a last minute planning and I was so pleasantly surprised. From the staff, to the service, to the food it was all amazing. If you Love Italian and looking for a wonderful place to take someone you can stop your search.

So bad. It pains me to write a bad review considering the state of the restaurant industry right now but this was so bad. They had the bartender waiting tables and bartending, granted there were not many people in there but 6 tables and ppl at the bar is too many ppl for 1 person to handle. My friend and I ordered the margarita on their special cocktail list and it was disgustingly sweet. But it took him so long to get back to us that we just drank them. We ordered the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer and it came out with 5 small shrimp with jarred cocktail sauce. For $19.99 I can't believe we didn't get so much as a lemon wedge… and 5 shrimp? Come on. We asked for lemon and again it took so long we had eaten the tiny shrimp. She ordered the roast amish chicken which tasted like it was freezer burnt. I got the pork chop which came with a sauce that was super salty. It wasn't worth complaining bc again he didn't come back to check on us for at least 20 mins… The cocktails were supposed to be half off (HH) but we were charged full price. Overall terribly disappointing and SO expensive. Would not recommend at all
