Food: 3.5ambience: 4service: 2.8price: 2.5decided to come here for din before heading to a show at Thalia Hall across the street.didn’t start off great from the empty waiting reception area where we waited for ~5 minutes before anyone came to help and seat us.the food was fine but nothing to call home about. the croquettes were pretty good. the rice cakes/pasta plate was decent but rice cakes were not saturated enough with flavour so you just got this chunk of chewy rice cake mostly. the cornbread madeleines were good.i got the fried chicken, which i’m beginning to see is a general theme in chicago restaurants where people just don’t season or flavour the actual chicken before frying it. so you just kinda have this flavourless chicken and have to rely on the sauce or sides to spruce it up. not sure what that’s all about, and the hit sauce wasn’t very plentiful or particularly strong (i ended up taking some of my bf’s sauce from the bibimbap so i could get some kick to the meal .the mushrooms in the bibimbap were pretty tasty. passed on dessert since we weren’t wild about the main food.ambience was decent and dark, but overall everything is a little too precious and mysterious with the lack of signs to even know this is the right place (also lack of signs for the bathroom, so it seems like a theme ?? , and price seems a bit on the high side.
The croquettes, which are meant to be filled with ham and cheese, were bland in their veggie version. The hamachi was accompanied by a sour sauce that could have used some sweetness or citrus to balance it out. The fried chicken had decent seasoning, but the addition of a sour buffalo sauce completely ruined the dish. The same issue applied to the salmon; what they referred to as a sambal sauce was just another sour-tasting sauce, and the fish itself had virtually no seasoning. The bibimbap was particularly disappointing, lacking sufficient seasoning and flavor. There are plenty of places where you can find truly amazing bibimbap with flavorful gochujang, so I’m baffled by how they could mess this up. Perhaps it was the sauce they used. On a positive note, the short ribs were quite good, and the marinade was delicious—I just wished there was more of it. The lobster dumplings were also passable. It's disheartening to say it, but despite the appealing menu and enticing pictures, the flavors here simply didn’t deliver. We didn’t even finish most of the dishes and decided to skip dessert as a result. If you’re seeking authentic Korean flavors, I recommend looking elsewhere.
