Pho 888 - Chicago
Pho 888
Description
Nestled in the vibrant Argyle neighborhood, this Vietnamese restaurant offers substantial portions and an authentic culinary experience, though the decor may require some attention. Highlights include the rich broth of their pho and the well-seasoned dishes like bun bo Hue and lemongrass pork. Despite mixed service experiences, the friendly staff often receive praise. While some diners found the prices slightly higher than average, many felt the generous servings justified the cost. Overall, for those seeking authentic Vietnamese flavors, this restaurant remains a tempting destination, with patrons often returning for its comforting dishes and welcoming atmosphere.

Over all 9/10I was so surprised by this wonderful little discovery. The shop is super small, the entrance was awfully narrow, the shop is a bit old the vibe is meh but look past all these little inconveniences, am here for the food!I had the Rice with lemongrass pork, and Pho Dac Biet, the pork was flavorful and well seasoned . The pho broth was rich (didn’t like the noodle too much) but it was still good. One thing I don’t like is the new Chin Sun hot sauce (too sweet), prefer the old sriracha. I would visit again for Bun Bo Hue.But wish y’all a nice dine in. ??

The food here is so delicious, and the staff are sweet and friendly! The interior is decorated simply and casually, and the menu is very expansive, with a diverse selection of Vietnamese staples— from pho to banh mis to bun bo hue. My 3 friends and I came on a Friday night and it wasn’t busy. We ordered 5 dishes to split amongst us all: Pho Tai: I’d say this is probably among the best pho I’ve had thus far in Chicago; the broth is just so flavorful, savory, and aromatic, and the noodles are cooked to the perfect texture. Banh Mi with Grilled Pork: Would totally recommend the banh mis here; the bread is warm, flaky, and delicious with the perfect amount of sauce and veggies. The grilled pork is a classic, and the meat is nicely cooked and full of flavor. Banh Mi with Shredded Pork Skins: The pork skin provided great textures and unique flavors; another awesome choice of banh mi to order. Bun Bo Hue: I personally liked the pho better, but this broth is spicy and flavorful, and the meats and other ingredients add to the overall heartiness of this classic dish. Banh hoi tom thit nuong with pork (fine vermicelli mats with BBQ shrimp and pork): These build your own spring rolls are consistently among my favorite Vietnamese dishes. The BBQ shrimp and pork here are grilled wonderfully, and the fresh veggies and rice noodles create a light, fresh, balanced flavor. There was a little too much rice noodle and not enough meat for the rolls though, so we had a quite a bit of rice noodles left at the end. But they were delicious when soaked in the nuoc cham sauce. The total with tip came out to $23 per person, which isn’t bad, considering we ordered a lot of food and were all very full and satisfied afterwards. The prices are pretty standard relative to other restaurants in Argyle.—Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5Food: 5/5Ambience: 4/5Service: 5/5Overall Value: 5/5
What a great discovery! We were originally planning to go to Tank Noodle but forgot they were closed on Wednesdays, so we ended up coming here instead. And boy, are we glad we did! We were seated right away and...
