What Patty R dislikes about Next:
disappointing. Food was fine but that about it. Service felt rushed and mechanical. while none of the courses were bad, the only one that stood out was the apple dessert. the price was out of line for what the menu was. shocked that no coffee or after dinner drinks were offered. View all feedback.

We had the private dining experience tasting the Tour of Tuscany. We had 8 friends all indulging in a once in a lifetime experience to celebrate MANY occasions! Absolutely loved the whole experience from taking us down past the speakeasy to the private dining area with our own host and restrooms. They never once rushed us and Jessica honestly made the experience the best! I cannot speak highly enough of Jessica treating us like family and a long time friend while being so professional, intelligent, and sharing all the knowledge of the dishes! So much laughter and love in one room with the exquisite food and wine will be moments I will never forget. Thank you!
Michelin starred restaurants can be perilous, because they are always trying to reach out from the norm to distinguish themselves. In the case of Next, at least with the menu we had (Tuscan), they pulled it off, and I 'll say with elegance and aplomb. I won 't go chapter and verse through the menu, but the mushroom raviolo commanded attention it alone was worth the price of admission. The red snapper was sublime, and the wagyu short rib was transcendental. In addition, the wine pairings (we chose to mid tier reserve pairing) were exceptional, every glass tuned wonderfully to the meal. The service was friendly, prompt, but not overbearing or obsequious. I 've been to multiple high end restaurants in France and elsewhere, three star, one star, and otherwise. Next was completely unique, and also provided great food and service a real achievement. Clearly, this is not a place for casual dining, but for an exceptional night out, it 's wonderful!
I’ve been to Next throughout several of its iterations, and this is the first time I’ve truly felt let down by the meal. There are some highlights (the mushroom ravioli in particular) but the experience left us feeling underwhelmed.First, the food. This is one of the first times at a tasting menu where I was taken aback to learn that the dessert was the next course as I thought there was at least one more main coming. The meal’s crescendo was an underwhelming porchetta, and there was also there was no hint of red meat anywhere as a main. The menu when provided shows 17 dishes, but as bundled when served it is realistically 7 dishes. Fine, but lacking at the price point and left us wanting more. The service too was spotty. Our sommelier was present, but failed to give any description of the wine and it’s characteristics other than it’s name and origin. In another course our waiter was supposed to pour olive oil over the dish, but ignored the fact that no olive oil came out of the clogged bottle.Overall, the experience still delivered some tasty dishes. But at the price point of $800 for 2 people, it’s hard to justify what Next is charging versus what they are delivering.
Next, a restaurant in Chicago, offers a variety of themed menus that provide more than just a dining experience. From Mexico City to Paris 1906 Escoffier to a 10 year anniversary menu, each menu showcases unique and delicious dishes. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate, the service is top-notch, and the decor is clean and understated. The food is beautifully presented and the flavors are creative and unbeatable. The non-alcoholic beverage pairings are worth trying, as they are just as creative as the food. The experience at Next truly stands out, making it a must-visit for anyone who loves fine food and elaborate service experiences.

We came here recently for the Paris 1906 Escoffier menu. The food was really good and very classically French but with lots of technique not typical seen today very much on point with the theme. It was quite heavy overall though to be expected with an old school French menu. The service is really great here, the staff keeps things light and fun. Lots of drink options including non alcoholic pairings. Would love to come back to try again during a different concept.
We had a wonderful time at Next! The food was beautifully presented and the knowledge and passion of the staff was impressive. The decor is understated and clean. I would recommend next for gastronomes who really love north fine food and elaborate service experiences.
We went for the 10 year anniversary menu. The staff was fantastic and knowledgeable. The food was, of course, magical. The hospitality was 2nd to none. Get the reserve pairing, it's worth it.
In 2018, we dined at Alinea post Chef’s Table). Back then, the food was too salty for our liking. Hence, I was a little skeptical when we reserved at Next. To my amazement/surprise, we found Next a lot better. Only -ve) feedback, was the pouring for the Reserve Wine Pairing. At $175 pp $235 incl. Tip Tax), one would expect a bit more.

Let me start by saying I was a little nervous because we had just been blown away at Alinea the night before and felt I would be disappointed.

I recently came here with friends to celebrate my birthday and had their Tuscany menu. I’ve got to be honest. While the food and wine pairing was fine, I was pretty disappointed by the overall experience. The staff were friendly but there was really nothing special or memorable about the place. The tables are way too close together. You could hear the conversation of the table next to you. One of the staff knocked a bottle of olive oil off the table and nearly got it all over my friend. The food and presentation is average at best. We came for my birthday and they really didn’t do much special for it. I think they put a candle in a desert and gave me a tiny cookie. The overall lack of creativity for the price was a let down. I expected far more from a sister restaurant to Alinea. If you’re looking for spectacular, look elsewhere.
Our dining experience was nothing short of excellent! All of the staff we interacted with were incredibly friendly and helpful. The Tuscan menu was fantastic. All of the dishes were interesting yet accessible. Lots of warm cozy feeling food. Flavors were kinda all over the place but not in a bad way. Presentation was definitely top notch. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a true high end dining experience.
I’m sorry Tuscany was far too pricey for the meal. I have eaten at Trio, Alinea and 3 times at Next. This was the most out of balance given costs. The larger menu has frankly too much food and everything of interest is an upcharge. Though to be fair the truffle amount was fine for the price, but the reccoed amount overshadowed the ravioli. No one offered the Fiorentina upgrade. The non alch pairing was too much of the same essential thing. This was my last visit to Next … I think they need to revisit the model, the pricing and whether the ceremony has overwhelmed the culinary experience. I could have had 2 full Fiorentina and truffle meals at a good restaurant like RPM Italian and the food would have been every bit as good, just half the price. The food was great but not any better than the good competition. They have lost themselves in the “experience”. You can do better
Next was an elevated tasting experience that wasn’t pretentious. The Tuscany menu delighted the pallet, especially the raviolo and the wagyu short rib. We got the shortened menu, and it was perfect we still left satisfied. Going later in the evening is a great way to save on the price too. We couldn’t wait for the “next” course, and will definitely come back the next time we visit Chicago. Service was impeccable. This menu doesn’t accommodate gluten allergies, which was fine for us, but limited our ability to bring our friends here. We opted for North Pond for our time with them, which is also a great place.

Food was spectacular. Wine service was excellent. Service was great, but I expected more crispness (similar to what you see at Alinea). Ambiance missed the mark completely. Restaurant is loud, you can barely hear the server, yet you hear conversation at the table next to you to the fullest. Ambiance was less than what you would see in a home made production. Cleanliness left to be desired (bathroom, hallways, entrance). Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 2
Next Restaurant continues to set the bar for immersive dining experiences. This quarter’s Japan trip–inspired tasting menu was a beautifully executed journey through flavors, techniques, and balance. The menu offered a thoughtful mix of raw and cooked courses, seamlessly moving between sweet and sour elements, each dish feeling intentional and perfectly timed. Every course was precise, elegant, and layered with depth, showcasing both traditional inspiration and modern execution. The Ultra Reserve wine pairing elevated the entire experience—expertly curated and dynamic, with standout selections and a few sake pairings that complemented the menu flawlessly. Service was exceptional from start to finish: attentive without being intrusive, genuinely friendly, and highly knowledgeable. The team clearly understands the menu and pairings at a deep level, which adds another layer of enjoyment to the experience. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100+
I visited Next for the Osteria Francescana menu, and it was deeply impressive. The way they reinterpreted Massimo Bottura’s vision was both playful and incredibly creative. A quick note on the wine for fellow enthusiasts: I opted for the highest-priced pairing, expecting a lineup of heavy-hitting, prestige labels. Instead, the selection leaned heavily toward rare and obscure finds. While it wasn 't exactly what I expected (I was hoping for a bit more grandeur given the price point), I have to admit the selections were fascinating. They were rare, intellectually stimulating, and paired with surgical precision. The service, however, was flawless. The staff’s knowledge and their ability to explain the nuances of both the food and the rare pours were perfect. Even with the unexpected direction of the wine cellar, the overall experience was world-class. Two thumbs up. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
