On Thursday evening, I stopped by Museum Café hoping for a quick bite before a concert. Upon entering, I found no clear signage directing me to the bar, hot food, or cashier—just an unattended food case with some cold drinks and overpriced pre-packaged sandwiches. After wandering into the dining area, I still encountered no staff at the hot food bar or clear menu guidance. Eventually, a friendly woman appeared, explained the menu, and took my order. I went to the bar for a glass of wine, but the lone bartender—who also manages the member’s lounge—was busy crafting an elaborate cocktail. With another customer ahead of me, I opted for a reasonably priced hard cider from the cold case. The kind staff member later brought my delicious meal, but because of the slow and disorganized setup, I had to eat quickly and rush out. To make matters worse, the self-bus station is located on the opposite side of the room from the exit. The management overseeing this dining area really needs to improve things—it’s currently a disappointing experience and doesn’t reflect well on the Art Institute.

The Museum Café is a true gem. They offer complimentary ice-cold water, helping you save on bottled drinks. The food is prepared with fresh ingredients, and grilled items are made to order. There are great options for vegetarians and pizza enthusiasts, along with convenient grab-and-go sandwiches. Compared to restaurants on Michigan Ave, you'll pay less here and get better quality. I had the best cupcake ever at this café. Be sure to enjoy a cocktail or smoothie at the bar while you're there.
