My spouse saw a segment about Mr. Beef on CBS Sunday Morning (Air Date: Nov 19, 2023 . My spouse says to me “I want to go there”. Well, I’m an airline employee with headquarters in Chicago so I say OK. We flew out for lunch at Mr. Beef. Oh my gawd. It was well worth the 4-1/2 hour flight. Had a hot, sweet, juicy with fries. We got 2 sandwiches (hot, sweet dry to bring back to our kids. Ate ½ of the take home sandwich 2 days later and I’m like I’ve got to get on a plane tomorrow and have this taste delight again. And yeah, Al’s Beef may be older but it’s buogie now, so if you are in river North Chicago Mr. Beef is a must stop (2 blocks from the CTA Brown line Chicago station (N. Franklin St. W. Superior St.
Food was great. The issue was with the driver. I was in the lobby waiting for the driver; He called me but I couldn't understand him. I looked outside and saw a lady with a bag talking to a person. So I went outside, and the lady had my order and was telling the driver the bag wasn't her order. Thankfully she didn't walk away with it. Driver need to confirm better before handing over food.
This was my second stop for food when I landed in Chicago and it did not disappoint.Staff was super friendly and patient with an out of towner. I ordered the original beef dipped and fries. Super cheap and satisfying meal.I noticed as I ate there how many regulars it seemed like dropped in. I like how lowkey theplace was, although I did go on a weekday right before the lunch rush.Yes, I saw The Bear and of course I wanted to try it after seeing it. I will say it was one of my favorite beef spots that week. It was even cool to hear the staff talking about when they shot the show and how that worked. If you are in the area, stop in and get a Chicago staple!
I love my experience again eating the iconic combo also a regular Italian beef and cheese fries from our city Chicago thank you.
