The menu at the restaurant was much more extensive than the 10 items offered at the booth, and the portions were also more generous. I highly recommend the jerk chicken and rice dish, but if you can't handle spicy food, you can opt for the baked chicken instead. You can also try the "Best of Both Worlds" option and get half jerk chicken and half baked chicken. I was pleasantly surprised to have leftovers from my meal, which I did not expect at all.
They have absolutely amazing food!! I wasn't sure if I'd still be able to eat here being gluten free now, but I'm so happy that I can! I highly recommend the panades. They have always been so welcoming and friendly. The owner chatted with us while we waited for our food and gave my husband a Belizean long Island to try and he really liked it. I wish this place was closer to us we'd go a lot more often!!
The Garifuna people in Belize are a mix of African slaves and native Caribs from the Caribbean islands. Luckily for us, someone has brought their traditional cuisine and cooking skills to 63rd Street! After exploring the DuSable Museum's Craft Festival, we decided to stop by this restaurant. Susan enjoyed a Belizean Ice Tea, while I opted for a Red Stripe beer. We kicked off our meal with tasty conch fritters, followed by jerk chicken with rice and beans, and conch soup. The soup was especially delicious, with a mix of potatoes, peas, cassava, onions, peppers, and perfectly seasoned conch. The prices are fair, the portions generous, the service friendly, and the restaurant spotless. We will definitely be coming back with friends!
This place is one of the best kept secrets on the South Side! They should think about investing in a food truck that travels around and gets the world out!
My first visit to this restaurant was last night, and I was very impressed. The food and customer service were excellent. The Belizean rum punch was a delightful bonus. If you're looking for delicious food and drinks in a relaxed, no-frills atmosphere, this is the place to go.
