Formento's - Chicago
Formento's
Description
Formentos is a popular restaurant in Chicago's Fulton Market neighborhood, known for its ambiance and delicious food. However, some customers have complained about the slow service and high prices. While some have found the food to be average given the cost, others have praised the attentive service and excellent dishes. The restaurant's outdoor seating might not offer the same ambiance as the inside, so it's worth keeping in mind when booking a reservation. Overall, Formentos seems to be a hit or miss experience for customers, depending on what they're looking for in a dining experience.

Food was really tasty! We ordered corn bruschetta which was served with shaved truffle nice and cheesy. Loved the orecchiette pasta it was superb, chocolate cake was good too. Focaccia bread was fresh and warm, and everything was really fresh made ittasty Wine was decently priced has outdoor patio seating as well. Service could have been better so 4 star. Perfect place tohave dinner at patio or with friends.
Early dinner starting at 6pm wasn't busy/crowded at all. Sat outside where there was more tables available outside than I would've expected and spaced well. Great spot for people watching as well as there are so many characters walking by! Servicewas spot on from the get go as our server was extremely friendly having us laugh along with her. Gave good recommendations whenwe had questions and checked on us without going overboard. Felt like we had ordered the entire menu as we got a nice range ofdishes. Started off right as they brought out black pepper focaccia with olive oil to wet our whistle. For an appetizer, Oysterswere tasty (east coast tasted smoother and would recommend those). Definitely get the burrata and heirloom tomatoes as well asgrandma's meatballs. Tiger prawns were the only meh dish as they were a bit mushy in texture and so so flavor. All pastas weregreat, but the carbonara nailed it with the crispy pork bits. Chicken parm was succulent as was the skirt steak. Tiramisu wasexcellent, but the chocolate cake took the... Well, took the cake. Moist, succulent, right amount of sweetness... We orderedanother to go. Must come back!
Great restaurant if you 're trying to be that person . It 's VERY expensive for what you get. I ordered the Buccatini and was told it was a small size for $26 and that if I wanted a normal size it was going to be at least $50 . FOR PASTA!? I get it, you guys are cool and in Fulton Market, but maybe lets not take ourselves too seriously. All in all, it was nice. Server basically lived at our table and never really left us alone to conduct our dinner meeting. However, there was one glaring issue that I hope they consider changing. When we arrived, we had two out of three of our guests. They wouldn 't seat us with two out of three guests. Really? You 'd rather have an entry way full of people standing around missing one or two people than have your guests seated and ordering drinks and appetizers? They said, it 's because the kitchen is timed so perfectly . Umm sure ok that 's cool for your marketing material but we 're here to eat dinner, not try and be as exclusive as possible. To be honest, this random hard and fast rule along with the lack of value for what we paid (nearly $400 for three people and only two drinks! I will not be bringing our doctor 's back here for any meetings.
Just might be the best restaurant in the entire city. They somehow find a way to make the food and experience even better than the last time you were there—which seems impossible given it’s a 10/10 every time I’ve been. The Valentine’s Day setup was extraordinary and the service was top notch per usual. Will be back soon. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service: Dine in Price per person: $100+
I picked Formento's over a few other places for a small, special event. I visited all of the venues and met with the special event representatives of each places. Formento's had the perfect private space that I wanted. I especially liked the old brick walls and antique wooden cabinet in the room. What really helped me decide to choose this place over the others is the Director of Sales, India D. Compared to the other event representatives whom I've dealt with, India's sincerity and thoughtfulness stood out. I came back to the venue in less than a month to finalize the menu and other details. I met with India and Wendy P, the event manager. They were both fantastic. They listened to what I wanted the for the event, and they also offered great recommendations. They charge a fee if guests want to bring in their own cake. You can either pay the fee or order a custom made cake from their pastry chef. I opted to send pictures of the cake design I want. Wendy confirmed with me that their pastry chef can create my request. The price was very reasonable too. The service that we received during the event itself was excellent. I liked the personalized menu for each guest. During dinner, Wendy came by to make sure that everything was going well for us. The designated server for our event, along with the rest of the staff, were all efficient and great. The food was delicious. We had the family style dinner which included:. Starters: PROSCIUTTO TOAST, NONNA'S MEATBALLS, GEM LETTUCE SALAD. Entrees: CLASSIC CANESTRI, CHICKEN PARMESAN, PORK CHOP. Sides: CRISPY POTATOES, WOOD GRILLED BROCCOLINI. Desserts: CHOCOLATE CAKE, VANILLA GELATO The chocolate cake from the pastry chef was amazing. It was not just beautiful, but it was moist and had the perfect sweetness. Thank you to India, Wendy, and the rest of the staff of Formento's in making this event special for my family and I. It was a happy and unforgettable evening. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
