Brobagel - Chicago
Brobagel
Description
Nestled in Bucktown, this longtime bagel shop serves authentic New York–style bagels, inventive sandwiches and notable cream cheeses in a fast, grab‑and‑go format. Regulars praise its signature flavors and collaborations, but inconsistency is common: freshness, seasoning balance, assembly and order accuracy vary, and pickup/online orders can be prioritized. Seating is minimal and service can feel rushed or aloof. Great for specialty bagel cravings, though expectations about consistency and dine‑in comfort should be tempered.

Incredible! My husband and I had passed by this place several times, and we finally decided to stop in for breakfast sandwiches. Wow! The seasoning on the everything bagel was absolutely amazing. We tried the cheddar, bacon, and egg bagel, and I highly recommend it. The line was about 5-6 people long, so we thought it might take a while, but they were incredibly fast—don't let the line deter you! It only took about 5 minutes!
Nice staff, delicious bagels. Being from the east coast, I have pretty high standards for bagels. These are some of my favorites. They have delicious and unique sandwiches for them too. House made and did I mention delicious!?
I had an absolutely terrible experience at this restaurant. I arrived at 8 AM, but the menu hadn’t been updated, and they were out of several ingredients. They don’t accept credit cards, and Apple Pay wasn’t working either. The staff seemed very indifferent about my situation, which made it even more frustrating. After walking 15 minutes to get there, I ended up leaving empty-handed and had to walk another 15 minutes back home. So, I wasted at least 30 minutes of my life at this disorganized place.
It also took an unreasonably long time for them to prepare our two bagels, forcing us to wait on the crowded sidewalk. Thankfully, the bagels were made well, with generous portions of lox, so we left somewhat satisfied despite the hassle. Fast forward to today, we decided to give it another shot, hoping for a better experience and ordering ahead online. When I placed the order, the estimated preparation time was 10-15 minutes, but we didn’t get the confirmation that our order was ready until 35 minutes later. Not the end of the world, we picked it up and headed home. However, when we opened the bagels, they were rock hard, burnt, and each only had a single piece of salmon— a complete turnaround from our first experience. Surprised, I reached out via the help inquiry option in my email confirmation to explain the issue with the quality. The response from the General Manager was unhelpful and rude; he insisted that they make their bagels consistently and that all portions are pre-measured, adding that they would offer me a complimentary lox and bagel for my next visit. However, I don’t think it’s worth it—I won’t be returning. With so many other places in the area for lox and bagels, I’d rather avoid the risk of damaging a tooth just trying to have breakfast.
