Christmas meal to meet up with family. There was 11 of us, fish and chips were excellent lovely crisp batter and not greasy, we all had something different, the only starter that was disappointing was peppers that were roasted, the rest were great. The main courses sea bass, fish and chips, steaks, roast Turkey came quickly and were hot, and everyone was served all together, the service for drinks to the table was very slow, , would recommend and will be back again.
Lovely food in a lovely setting with lovely staff! Just lovely! We both had steak which was cooked to perfection with great chips and the deserts were both original and delicious. They were very accommodating of our dog and young baby too including making my wife feel comfortable whilst breastfeeding. There’s a great deal of choice in the Cotswolds but this is definitely worth a visit.
Booked here as we had passed it on our way to arriving at our nearby accommodation at Epwell. searched Google and saw had good ratings. It didn’t disappoint. Short 10 minute drive to sit outside on a patio on a summers evening to great food reasonably priced with friendly service. Arancini were crisp and hot and my fish chips although a simple dish can so often go wrong. Lovely light crisp batter with fluffy chips, fish was moist flavoursome not dry over cooked as can be the case. The sea bass main was yummy too. Can thoroughly recommend the pear tart worth the wait wish we’d had two! Would recommend readily thanks guys for a lovely meal at a reasonable price
Sadly not quite up to expectations. We were seated promptly on arrival and our order was taken quickly. The food that was served was of a good standard. However there were a few things throughout the meal that let the side down slightly. I ordered the bread and houmous for starter, when it arrived there was no houmous. When I questioned this I was told they didn't have any left, the waitress asked what I would like instead not a question I can answer with out being given a list of options! When we asked her to find out she came back from the kitchen saying there was no alternative, would I like some butter. Had I known all of this before ordering I would have chosen something other than bread and butter. Another member of our party who arrived after the initial group ordered a lime and soda to drink but was served what tasted like a lemonade instead, when this was questioned she was told it was the lime and soda she asked for, yet it tasted very different to the lime and soda ordered by another member of the group... When it came to dessert, it was asked if the sticky toffee pudding came with ice cream as it wasn't mentioned on the menu, we were told it did. However when the desserts arrived there was no ice cream, when we queried this we were each given a small ramekin containing one scoop of chocolate ice cream, a little bit of an odd combination with sticky toffee pudding and a shame not to have had it all on the same plate. Finally, as much as we love dogs, having them constantly run under the table around our feet wasn't ideal for a sunday lunch time. It's a shame the service and attention to detail wasn't quite up to scratch as the majority of the food could not be faulted at all and they catered well for the various dietary requirements of the group.
Disappointed. Although the food really was quite good the service and atmosphere were poor. I love dogs but there were lots barking throughout our meal inside. Some of the waiting team were quite unhelpful and abrupt. When we asked if we could have some dessert, without being offered a menu we were just asked ‘what do you want?’ We were made to feel difficult for asking to see one. An expensive meal that did not feel as special as it should have done.
