This is a very welcoming restaurant just outside Gievres and serves very accomplished and tasty cooking with a speciality in grilled meat. There is excellent fish cooking too and delicious desserts. Highly recommended, Perhaps book for lunch, with. a €13 Formule restaurant when the restaurant is very busy.
I 've eaten here three times before and it 's never been good, but the nearby hotel has no restaurant and I don 't want to drive to the town, so here I must eat! But tonight was the final straw. An unpleasant man (the owner I guess) takes your order and gabbles on about God knows what, in French, even though he knows I 'm English. I 'm not expecting English from him but at least slow down the French matey and speak simply. I order the rack of lamb, rose, please. When it arrives the middle is completely uncooked and stone cold to the touch. So I call him over and ask him to cook it a bit more. It comes back and is still cold in the middle. I say to him Is this rose? Yes he says It 's premier rose PREMIER rose, who ever heard of that? He means RAW!!! Anyway I sort of pick at it, as you do, and leave most of it, especially the very well cooked lump of fat that is attached to it. For dessert I order the Mousse au Chocolate. Stodgy Instant Whip with bits of chocolate thrown in. When I pay he has to use a calculator to add up 17.50 (the lamb) 7.80 (2 beers) and doesn 't charge me for the mousse. Not being charged for something does NOT make everything better. Then he hopes to see me again soon. No way I say That was dreadful OK he says The beer was good though, even here they can 't ruin a bottle of 1664!
We have just returned from a visit to the Loire and had pleasure again, to visit this wonderful restaurant. Anne and Pascal the wonderful owners, Anne being the chef, could not have made us more welcome, food was incredible, steaks so tender and delicious, sauces fabulous and cheeses some of the most delicious ever tasted, fabulous wine list and served to perfection... lovely atmosphere, I cannot understand the reviews below that did not give this restaurant a five star rating! what do people want! We cannot wait to return and be welcomed and dined again. Thank you Anne and Pascal
If you are travelling near Gievre in the Loire I can recommend the Sapinere restaurant. A charming rustic house that is warm and inviting. The owner is convivial speaks some English and has a nice sense of humour What you get is a menu of classic French cuisine oysters fois gras frog legs of course all beautifully cooked and presented. For the less adventurous there are salads. If you order steak lamb or duck it is cooked on a open log fire. Delicious If it is summer you can eat on the terrace and enjoy good food in a tranquil peaceful setting with only the sound of birds chirping as you are away from any traffic in a hidden gem if a restaurant A very enjoyable French experience at a very affordable price I hope you make it there and if you do tell the owner you found him on Tripadvisor these family owned businesses need to survive. Thanks
