Saltair Pub
Description
The Saltair Pub has been through some changes in recent years, with varying experiences reported by visitors. The cozy, off-the-road location offers a craft beer selection and typical pub fare with some Greek influences. Service has been hit or miss, with some guests finding the food underwhelming and others praising the new menu and management. The live entertainment and charming atmosphere are highlighted positives, but inconsistent food quality and service have caused mixed reviews among patrons. Overall, the Saltair Pub seems to be a popular spot for locals with potential for improvement in the dining experience.
Feedback
We have been to this pub and over the last three years have seen it change hands and menus, stories abound about the why's and where fors of failures. Last night we went again with two other couples from the area, specifically to see the entertainer who was great as usual, he played for two and a half hours with only 1 fifteen minute break, great sense of humour and a songs that just were non stop.So having said that we arrived at six and decided to make a night of it. we ordered supper off the scant choices offered, no appetizers.Asked if the cod that was served with french fries was fresh, the answer was it was frozen but now its thawed, unacceptable! living in a coastal village they serve up frozen fish.Come on. Calamari was over cooked and mostly batter, the salad came but the lettuce was rusty, we listened intently to a man at the table next to us complain about his meal the server just listened and didn't offer to make it better or change it to something more edible. The drinks were ,drinks, can't mess with that. The place is set beautifully in an off the road location ,however doesn't overcome the bad taste we left with....all in all the entertainer was great ,company was great and the patrons as friendly as you would ever meet. However the food was sub par...choose carefully, there are lots of places around to eat, Bottom line the six of us decided that we would not eat there again....but never say never.
In fact, it was a home once upon a time, and it is tucked behind the landscaping on a small street off the main highway so if you didn't know it was here you would drive right past it. Craftsman charm, good beer, and decent pub food more or less as you'd expect with some dependence on fried food: fish and chips, burger plates and the like. And someone's got some Greek ancestry going on as some of the dishes veer that direction. Quiet on midweek days but apparently quite the place on Friday and Saturday nights--you'll see all the neighbors here!
The food and atmosphere under the new ownership/management at the Saltair Pub is excellent. We like to arrive around 5pm... we are the early birds. Tonight we had their featured special, the halibut burger and fries. The best ever!!! They have a new chef and we are so impressed. We also like that they have Riot Beer, a local brewery, on tap. We are locals, supporting locals, who are supporting locals!!
