Above all, do not comment on the service which was approximate, nor on the cooking of the veal kidneys.... Do not say at the time the customer was king, because the manager and her husband respond heartily ' 'here in Meuse, kings have their heads cut off ' '. Clearly stated threat, the customer has nothing to say.... View all feedback.
Arrived hot and tired from viewing the WW1 sites, very welcoming reception and taken to room shown facilities and how to work air-con,unpacked then a cup of tea(we`re English).Restaurant started service 1930 but we had sat in the al-fresco area and enjoyed a large pastis, with plenty of ice.About 7 different priced menus we settled on the 40E the first night.the usual amuse bouche, cold veg soup, very good then foie gras the pigeon casserole with fresh veg extremelly good portions.cheese was a let down pre-plated.desert was a very good creme brulee. Wine was house white, a Sylvanier very good 9E half litre, bottled wine where expensive. A great meal followed by a great sleep. Breakfast was OK. 2nd night we had drinks pre dinner 1830 then the 25E residents menu 3 courses very good value, white wine carafe again. Went for walk around the lake saw a kingfisher and plenty of large fish in lake.lovely place to return to after wondering around the WW1 sites.
This truly is a hidden gem, it is marked on google maps but it is easily missed. It was a long shot to see if they were serving lunch and thankfully they were. With our limited French we managed to order, even though the staff spoke some English, which was much better then our French. The waitress was very helpful and let us practice our French with her. The food was amazing, as well as the wine and service. The location is so beautiful and if we did not have another booking to get to we would stayed given they have accomodation.
Very good reception , an interior and outdoor landscape . a very well-established table and a frugal meal . than ask for more then !!!! an excellent calf rice sheet followed by gigolettes of rabbit to cider , all served by the very friendly patrone . really a good time in friends. Thank you
