Contribute FeedbackThis Chinese restaurant in town used to be a favorite, but recent experiences have been disappointing. Customers have complained about greasy, tasteless food, lack of cleanliness in the restrooms, and declining quality over time. However, there are still loyal patrons who love the friendly service, generous portions, and delicious flavors. While some find the food lackluster and overbreaded, others rave about the Wonton soup and combination plates. Despite mixed reviews, many continue to return for the nostalgic memories and familiar taste of their favorite local Chinese restaurant.
The biggest thing I loved about eating at the Golden Crown was simply the fact that it left me wanting more. Whenever I order the fried rice there, they always make me want to have some to take home. It is easily the go-to Chinese food choice in Chatham.
As a child my parents used to take us here for special occasions like birthdays. The food was always the best and this place became the place I compared all other Chinese restaurants to. I am still doing that as it is still my favorite local Chinese restaurant.
We go here on a regular basis. It's fairly small and not overly fancy, bit the food is great. Based on the traffic, their take-out is at least as busy as those dining-in. We typically order 3-4 dishes a-la-cart, which include SooGuy (sp) as well as Golden Crown Fried Rice.Another favorite is Yic-A-Min (sp). This is a meal in itself. Noodles, broth, chicken topped off with a boiled egg. They quarter the egg and position it as a flower petal on the top. You need to ask for this and it takes a little longer, but its well worth the wait.Highly recommended.
Recently we ate in this restaurant instead of take-out. We discovered that the same meal we take out has extra items when we eat in. A drink is included as well as both won ton soup and egg rolls. We feel that their Chinese food is the best in town. They also have several Canadian food items.
I have mixed feelings due to a couple visits. I went there in late summer. The bathroom was cleaner than I had ever seen it! The staff treated us like royalty (there was also an older man but he was very quiet/almost shy. I think it's his wife owns it and he just fills in sometimes? She's certainly the boss.)! Even with the bathroom so much better, it was short lived when I heard the woman yelling at someone, I couldn't see who. I went back in last month still good to us. Good food. Good prices. When I went to the bathroom though it was horrible again! I don't know what happened? I Hate dirty bathrooms! Makes me wonder what the kitchen is like?
