We had a nice, quick dinner here. It feels more geared towards takeout or delivery, but there are a few self-service tables inside. Doug was very friendly! The location isn't the greatest, but that’s part of the experience. The hibachi uses thigh meat instead of breast meat, and while it’s different from the traditional cook-in-front-of-you style, the kids still enjoyed it. It's a great spot for fast sushi. What User doesn't like about Umami Sushi Hibachi Grill:
I ordered calamari, and it was overcooked, resulting in a tough and chewy texture. For my main course, I had the hibachi shrimp and scallops, which lacked flavor. The shrimp were mushy, and while there were plenty of vegetables in the hibachi meal, the dish was overly watery with too much liquid mixed in with the shrimp and scallops. I consistently have a fantastic experience at Hibachi Express. The B1 Teriyaki Chicken Bowl was filled with tender chicken smothered in a generous amount of sauce. The A5 Vegetable Tempura, which comes with eight pieces, was a hearty serving and incredibly delicious. I'm thrilled to have access to such excellent Japanese food in Charleston.
I had the H7 Hibachi Chicken and Shrimp along with the R4 California Roll, and both were fantastic! I felt completely satisfied, yet it appeared as though I hadn’t even touched my meal! The portions were generous, and the quality was excellent!
The Pad Thai noodles had a good flavor, but they were quite dry and clumped together in a tight ball, so much so that my plastic fork broke and I had to use a metal one to eat them. The Green Curry was delicious and met my expectations. The S7 Kimchi was also very enjoyable.
I highly recommend this restaurant! The food was served hot and absolutely delicious!
The sushi was excellent, and the crab rangoons were also tasty. The Kani Salad was just okay; it wasn't prepared the way I'm used to from other places, but that's just my personal preference. I will definitely order from here again!
