Tempest is an upscale seafood restaurant located on historic Market Street, next to sister location Church and Union Charleston. With a seasonal menu curated by Chef Adam Hodgson and Bravo Top Chef Alum Chef Jamie Lynch, Tempest offers hyper-local, sustainable South Atlantic seafood. The restaurant features a raw and roast menu with chilled and charcoal roasted options prepared on a Mibrasa charcoal oven, which adds a subtle smoke flavor without compromising the integrity of the seafood. Guests can also enjoy impressive Seafood Towers and a selection of seafood-friendly Old-World wines, hand-picked gins, rums, and bourbons.

Nestled in the vibrant culinary scene of Charleston, Tempest shines with its exceptional service and inviting atmosphere. Many guests rave about the attentive staff and creative cocktails, enhancing the overall dining experience. However, opinions on the food vary. While some dishes delight with flavor and presentation, others fall flat with bland tastes and small portions. Despite the mixed reviews on the menu, patrons appreciate the restaurant's efforts during special occasions like Thanksgiving. With its intimate setting and promising service, Tempest remains a popular choice for both locals and visitors, though diners might selectively opt for drinks and desserts in the future.

Two out of the three of us did not enjoy their entrees. Our daughter had a chicken entree that she said was overly salty, My husband had the flounder entree, and while he said it was good, it was a very skimpy portion. We all enjoyed our salads and the bread, and our daughter enjoyed the dessert. I ordered the crab cake which was very good, but it could have been excellent with a little less heat (which overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the crab). Also, we were charged $18 for a Manhattan drink for which I had requested to be made with house bourbon (a little steep, I think). The atmosphere was nice, but we had to ask our server to turn down the volume of the music a little so we could enjoy our conversation. It was a nice touch to bring us a rose and complimentary cognac after the meal. All in all, it was not a bad dining experience, just not a great one.

One of the best meals I've had in Charleston! The bread was to die for, the potatoes were perfectly crispy and the s'mores dessert was fabulous. Everyone was so incredibly kind and I'm already looking forward to going back!

We had a group of 9 for dinner last night at The Tempest. Our experience at Tempest was excellent. In particular, the fixed price menu was a winner that encouraged everyone to try something new. And the atmosphere was perfect for our group. Enough activity around us to be interesting however not too loud for us to be able to have a conversation at the table. Highly recommend The Tempest. I look forward to coming back.

First trip to Charleston to get our Navy Son set up. Tempest was our first Charleston dining experience. Did not disappoint! Location and dining room are perfect. Small and intimate dining room with a classy bar. Service was top notch. Very attentative and very knowledgeable of the menu and specials. The special gifts from the kitchen were tasty and appreciated by our table. Food was excellent in both presentation and taste. Only suggestion is to sharpen the knives.Definitely a win for our first Charleston dining experience.

We ate here during our most recent trip. We dined during Thanksgiving so it was a special menu but the food was delicious. The More Smore is the best desert I've probably ever had. I highly recommend.
