Richard's Restaurant - Chapala

Open only during select hours of the week, reservations required, and located on an obscure residential street, Richard's is a great value with really good food. From the home made breadsticks, garlic toasts, and the Shrimp Pil Pil appetizer, to the cauliflower soup and then...to the fettuccini with smoked salmon, shrimp in sauce with rice, or filet mignon with bleu cheese sauce and au gratin on the side. Then there's the home made ice cream.

Please tell the truth about restaurants. We arrived with high expectations due to the reviews...has something happened.. Friday evening, no one but our group.. I'd swear everything was out of a can!! And yes, Michel Goss, as you reported mysquitos everywhere. And exactly who is...Richard?

We were totally blown away. Hugh was incredibly attentive and he was the chef! the most amazing dishes on any menu in Chapala, beautiful presentation and superb flavours. Honest, the three of us all agreed that we've never had a better meal in our town.

Yes it has reopened and under new ownership. Small and friendly with similar menu as before. Reservations a necessity. Food came timely and was very good. Service great by very friendly owner Hugh who truly is just getting it off the ground. Everything was very...good, presented well and owner is very honest and kind. Will return for sure.

We went for Valentine's Day dinner with friends. Our meals were very good at an affordable price. Hugh did everything from taking our order, cooking as well as taking care of all the other guests. A couple of the steaks were not as done as requested but he did a good job of taking care of the problem.
