I've never experienced a place like Bert Bark, it's the kind of place that will change you for the better and leave its brand on your soul. The owners are two of the most interesting people I've ever met. Every part of a stay in Bert Bark takes care of me. Delicious nourishing meals prepared fresh from the garden, stunning views of the mountains, along the river at sunset, in the sun with the cats, enrich my mind with books from the free library, walk barefoot in the garden at dawn and tucking sage into my kicker. Everything. Especially. It is a place that immediately makes me slow down and breathe a deep sigh of relief. It feels like coming home.
The Bert Bark Inn is such a special place. If you move to the property, you will be greeted with a positive energy that lasts during your stay. The owners are so incredibly friendly and welcoming, they are refreshingly aware of the environment, and they offer very clean apartment in what is probably the underestimated area in Newfoundland. We cannot wait to book our next trip!
This place is really a home away from home with the most friendly people who care about you and your comfort. I loved my stay here so much while my ferry was delayed and was greeted in like family. Annnd they have some of the sweetest cats I've ever met! I loved the view of the water, the mountains, its huge garden and greenhouse. It is an ecological hostel, not a hotel... so bathroom and kitchen are common rooms and there is no TV in the room that was refreshing. You have movie niggers on a big screen projector, although in the barn house and they sometimes have live music shows! What a jewel to find in Newfoundland!
Simply THE BEST!! The Bert Bark Inn is a welcoming, comfortable, warm hostel in a lovely, stunning setting. What made our stay even better (unforgettable, in fact were our phenomenal hostesses, Rosh and Lana. We immediately felt at home with our new friends, who not only picked us up from our guesthouse in Port au Basques (where we arrived on the ferry from Nova Scotia , but also brought us to the Codroy Valley Folk Festival, an annual and very local event. We had an absolute blast! The Bert Bark property itself is large and well-cared for, with a domed garden, separate movie lounge, greenery, and a river view. You can see the love that Lana and Rosh have poured into their home. The area is quiet, serene, and peaceful. The small, quaint hostel (this is not a hotel... which adds to its unique charm, and is the main reason we chose it provides both private and communal rooms, as well as communal space indoors and outdoors (kitchen, lounge, decks, garden, etc. . You can easily hang with other travelers, or find space to relax by yourself. There are kayaks for rent (kayaking the river is easy and awesome!! , a beach (swimming! nearby, and bicycles available to explore the beautiful valley. If you are looking for a home-away-from-home, with welcoming hosts, for an incredibly affordable price, look no further than the Bert Bark Inn. Be prepared to make new friends and new memories!
I stayed there for 3 nights 4 days, the staff is very welcoming and friendly, they are travellers with insights and stories to share. Eager to help you learn sostainable habits if you want. I loved the interior design they have, they offer many non-screen ways to have fun. Kayaks, bikes, hikes, etc. The different places to chill out in the site, one is just perfect to sing along a campfire and play music while enjoying a nice sunset over the river, and The Lounge, a sanctuary for meditation, dancing, or projecting the Friday's foreign movie. Definitely I have to go when I visit Newfoundland again.
