Cours de Cuisine Gastronomique Jean Marc Villard

Oh dear.Where to start?!_We had a family lunch here last weekend when my borther and his wife came for a surprise visit from Sydney.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jean Marc and his wife, Alice, today. My partner and I did the market and lunch package. We were picked up by Jean Marc personally and were lucky enough to have him all to ourselves for the market tour. He carefully explained traditional Lyonnaise food products to us (e.g., types of meats, cheeses etc) and answered all questions we had in depth and with great passion. We were then driven to his home (at an extra cost), located in an outer suburb of Lyon, which is set amongst a beautiful, green garden. Unfortunately it rained all morning and afternoon, so we were unable to eat our lunch outside, but this would be a beautiful lunch setting in summer/spring. The cooking class its self was very directional, interactive, and relaxed. Meals were prepared as a group, with Jean Marc leading the way, as opposed to each individual preparing their own meal; as an amateur chef, I preferred this approach, as it meant that the group was always at the same stage, interacting with each other, and able to ask Jean Marc technique-oriented questions along the way (instead of trying to play catch up). High quality food products complemented this friendly and accessible approach to cooking, which resulted in three really delicious meals (entree, main, and dessert). The meals prepared were some of the best we've had on this trip (so far) and we have been eating at some lovely (and expensive) restaurants! The company at lunchtime was also lovely and it felt that you were in your own home, eating with your own friends. The chef's wife, Alice, was incredibly friendly and, like Jean Marc, made you feel right at home. We are young (25 years old), so perhaps not representative of their typical customers, but this was not the cheapest of activities. Despite the price, we had an excellent time and would definitely recommend the Villard's cooking courses to anyone visiting Lyon. Thank you so very much for a great day in Lyon, Jean Marc and Alice!

We have a wonderful cooking class with Chef Jean Marc. His cooking school is located just near Lyon in a beautiful garden. We cooked a delicious French meal that we shared with his wife Alice.
