before the cable car ascent to the aigle du midi we considered to have some meal in the nice centre of Chamonix and saw this traditional and very well set of Refuge Payot, we were a little cofused because while the fast food joints were fully of people, this wonderful place with reasonable prices has free places . . . we considered ordering a table of typical regional products, and we could not believe the quantity a... What USAfrGR doesn't like about Le Refuge Payot:
Not eveything is from the Haute Savoie. I went in a couple of times, and actually the workers were either talking to each other and ignoring me, or screaming at each other and ignoring me. The pates and jams are overpriced as well as the the sausages, wines and cheeses. The the options are very good selection but nothing really local local as I was expecting. Good quality local products and very nice service! we went there 4 times to get our ham's and wine ; Also the grilled chicken was delish!
Have just visited Refuge Payot 2. We asked for the offer advertised outside for a meat platter and wine. We were met with no three times. No explanation was given. I have never been treated so rudely by staff. I will add that there were no other customers in the shop, just two staff members standing doing nothing. Go to their other branch facing superu, lovely pleasant staff and great service.
All French villages seem to have a store like this. The only differences relate to price and quality. Being Chamonix, the prices may be a bit higher than in a less frequented town, but the quality sure is there. We bought a pork and reblochon cheese sausage, it was fantastic! Having had a glass of Genepi the night before, we wanted to bring a bottle home, but which type? A wonderful young man gave us a free taste test of the various offerings. We had to stop after 3-4 types, lest we get drunk! Do stop by and provision for an on-mountain picknick. Winter or summer, you won't regret it!
