I've visited Rietvlei twice in the past three months for birdwatching, and I found the location to be well-maintained, with clean restrooms and viewing hides. However, the reeds surrounding some of the hides are overgrown, making it difficult to see the water birds. While you can hear them, seeing them is a challenge. I believe trimming the reeds would improve the birdwatching experience. The park boasts a good variety of wildlife and abundant birdlife. The roads are in good condition during the dry season, but I suspect some dirt paths may pose difficulties for regular vehicles during the wet season. The picnic areas are clean and well-kept. Overall, it's a pleasure to visit this park.

The reserve features a lovely selection of hides and picnic areas, as well as a cozy coffee shop where you can enjoy refreshments and snacks. The tarred roads are well-maintained, and while most dirt roads are in good condition, some sections can pose a challenge for regular cars, particularly after rain. Rietvlei is particularly popular on weekends, which can lead to some messiness around picnic spots on Mondays and Tuesdays; however, by Wednesday, you can expect the area to be beautifully pristine once again. If you enjoy your time at the reserve or wish to become a regular visitor, consider joining the "Friends of Rietvlei" membership to support the volunteers who care for this wonderful place, or get involved in their efforts yourself.

I truly adored this place and the beauty it offers. It's well-maintained and very clean. They also have some game animals, but none that are carnivorous or dangerous. It’s a large area with plenty of activities available, such as peaceful drives, secluded spots, lapas, and bomas. The dam is also accessible for those who want to be near the water. It’s definitely a family-friendly destination where the kids can have a great day and sleep soundly at night.

What a wonderful surprise! This tiny nature reserve seems well stocked and beautiful. The roads are clearly marked and easy to drive. There are several bird hides and loads to see. There are picnic spots by the dam, and we loved that it was just a small drive out of the city. R71 per adult.

We visited on a weekend in September 2023 before heading to the airport for our flight home. It was not too busy. There was a short wait to get a ticket, but the roads weren't too bad. It is a nice reserve to drive around and see wildlife. We found the signage extremely bad. This picture of a road sign, with missing arrows and letters peeling off was typical. The bathrooms were pretty bad too. This place could definitely use some maintenance.
