What SharonTan doesn't like about Back To Basic Living:
When I tried to book a special dinner for a friend, there was another miscommunication. Joyce agreed to accommodate us on a non-operating day, but failed to inform us that Tuesday was actually their day off. Although she tried to make amends by offering a cash coupon and a gift set for my friend's birthday, there were additional charges not mentioned initially.

Overall, Waka Mama offers exceptional cuisine, thanks to Joyce's talent. However, the customer service and communication could be improved. As a high-end Vegan Omakase restaurant, I expected better accountability. Despite the culinary delights, the experience was marred by the communication mishaps.
Formerly known as Back to Basic Living, Waka Mama has transitioned to focus more on an omakase private dining concept. However, they still offer an a la carte menu and outdoor seating for larger groups. What remains consistent is their commitment to creating the finest gluten-free, whole-food, plant-based cuisine. Chef Joyce's menu showcases creative Japanese-inspired dishes, particularly Shojin Ryori (Zen temple cuisine), along with other fusion flavors influenced by her diverse cultural experiences. Trained at the Matthew Kenney raw food institute in the U.S., Chef Joyce emphasizes natural ingredients with minimal salt, oil, and sugar, as well as raw vegan and gut-friendly fermented foods. I was impressed by the beautifully presented and delicious dishes, as well as the detailed explanations provided by Chef Joyce. Despite my lack of culinary expertise, I could taste the wholesome goodness in every bite. The price is well justified considering the quality of ingredients, craftsmanship, and effort put into each dish, as everything is made from scratch. Chef Joyce even took pottery classes to handcraft some of the dinnerware! The omakase set starts at $138 per person, depending on the number of dishes. Customizations for dietary restrictions like allium-free or nut-free are available with advance notice. This cozy micro-restaurant only has 4 indoor seats for private dining, creating an intimate atmosphere. It is also pet-friendly, with a friendly schnoodle named Momo serving as the in-house mascot. They even have items on the menu that pets can enjoy. I adored the healthy home-cooked style and positive energy of Waka Mama. I highly recommend it, especially for special occasions like anniversaries or birthdays. Waka Mama is located a 10 to 15 minutes' walk from Haw Par Villa MRT (CC25) or Pasir Panjang MRT (CC26). À la carte lunch is available Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 3pm, and omakase dinner is available Thursday to Sunday from 5pm to 10pm. Be sure to make reservations in advance by calling 81757753 or visiting their official website. (Hidden link provided). Updated from a previous review on September 17, 2023.

Whatever you order, the taste is at its best, tip top and satisfying. Probably the best vegan food in Singapore. But the price is atas too. The price signage in the HappyCow app should be 3 ' ' instead of 2.
