The Orient Restaurant - Central Saanich

This is the best Chinese food I've had in ages, and the only place we get take out from. The selection is awesome and the prices are great

We were in the area and were craving vegetables for dinner. So we decided to go to what we knew would be a 'small town/North American ' style Chinese restaurant that was nearby. And it did the job! We ordered a Special Chop Suey and a small hot 'n sour soup. It took a long time to get there. First the soup which was surprisingly good. A nice sesame taste. And I think it was vegetarian, with bamboo shoots, carrot, tofu, and a type of pickled radish. Another long wait and the chop suey arrived. The vegetables seemed fairly fresh (considering the season), but the main flavour did seem to be salt. It was okay....and refreshing. So no complaints, really. The woman serving us was very friendly and genuine. And the place was a lot better than most of those small town Chinese Restaurants that we 've encountered on our travels. Nice music, too, playing at a good volume not too loud, not too soft.

Now, I've never eaten inside the restaurant, but we get take out from there. The food is always fresh, hot and tasty. We have found that they are good with the estimate of when the food will be ready for pick-up. The restaurant itself is always clean and the staff very pleasant. When we go for our pick-up order, we often see people enjoying their dinner at some of the tables.

Although we didn't find the food spectacular, it was fair enough, and very convenient. It was a nice change and represents another option in Brentwood Bay. We've been twice and on both occasions there was no one else in the restaurant. We'd still visit again knowing our likely experience.
