Description

El Pilon offers a mixed dining experience characterized by hit-or-miss food quality and warm, friendly service. Many patrons rave about the flavorful Spanish dishes and the welcoming, mom-and-pop atmosphere, particularly enjoying offerings like mashed plantains and expertly cooked seafood. However, some diners express disappointment over portion sizes and inconsistency in dish flavors. The restaurant's convenient location near Central Islip train station enhances its appeal for those seeking a quick dining option or takeout. While service is usually commendable, reviews also highlight occasional delivery mishaps. Overall, El Pilon remains a place worth trying but with caution.

The staff here are incredibly rude. Additionally, they charge excessively while serving very small portions. The food itself is not impressive either. Overall, a disappointing experience.

I'm sorry, I hate giving such a bad review when the people that work at the establishment are fairly cordial, but the food here isn't good. After the 1st time I went I swore I would never go back but 5 months later due to a few other stores closing due to Covid my son asking if he could order something. I'll start with the beans, no seasoning and watered down the same for the yellow rice. (How does they happen? The pork chop was hard and dark in color I want sure if it was grilled or pan seared. The beef tasted spoiled and the chicken was dry like sawdust. This place seems to get business but I honestly don't understand how I've NEVER been to a Latin restaurant where the food doesn't have flavor. Some better than others of course. I've eaten in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Hempstead/Nassau and Suffolk and I honestly have to say this is one of the worst places flavor wise I have ever eaten.
