The main reason for eating here is the view, which is simply stunning. The owners are friendly and service efficient. The dishes and many of the ingredients are home-made. Not cheap but not excessively expensive for what you're getting either. View all feedback.
What Ignacio Padilla doesn't like about La Ferme Basque:
the service: what to say the service for me starts with a smile, here it is visibly optional, brief amorphous server, which in addition is mistaken on the chosen wine, forgets half of the order and which instead of making a low profile (I do not even speak of apologizing) the arrogant and ironic dishes: a menu has 28 euros with a garbage in entry (not terribly surprised and gigacious), a dish I think counting about 9... Great Food and atmosphere in the heart of the Pyrénées! Homemade food… Staff were professional and friendly… A great experience that we highly recommend! We couldn’t leave them without buying 2 jars of the garbure!!!
Fantastic place. We are a family of 4 and we had a great experience. We were greeted by very welcoming staff the waiters, the chef, and a lot of other people on site. The food made from home grown ingredients tasted super good. Definitely worth visiting
You see this place every time you go on the gondola up the mountain, but I wonder how many make the journey to go eat there? Our family opted to walk up to this restaurant rather than drive (to work up an appetite . The footpath is heavy going in some places but it seriously worth it. We arrived towards the tail end of lunch time, and so had to wait while the staff rushed around clearing and doing bills etc, but once seen, the waiter was attentive and efficient. (Staff speak a multitude of languages so no problems for majority of tourists!
We are from California but enthusiastic of the French Basque. Our visit to La Ferme Basque was fantastic. The welcome was warm and sincere each course was presented with smiles and pleasant conversation. The food was delicious. We look forward to our next visit in September 2017!
This is the second time we 've visited la Ferme Basque. The first time was in 2008 in the depths of winter, tucked into a corner of the small inside restaurant with a cassette fireplace blazing to provide heat. This time the in the warm march sunshine it was a different experience, not sure if it has changed hands but there was a friendly welcome and a nice atmosphere with a choice of a la carte or a E29 3 course Menu. We sat on the terrace with great views across the valley towards the town of Cauterets and beyond. We brought our young puppy Rollo expecting he 'd be a problem but he was welcome too. Even the owner came out to say 'bonjour ' to him. Parking can be an issue if its busy. the carpark is a solid flat surface but only room for about 12 cars. The charm of this place is not a high standard of gastronomy, the food is good but not great. But its the overall location and experience that makes it worth a visit. there 's not many places in the area where you get unrivalled views and a peaceful atmosphere that makes for a great dining experience. It offers overall good value but watch out for some of the prices like bottled beer at E5 a shot. but the wine was nice and not expensive.
