Well worth the visit for the setting and the 'happy hour ' special which continues through to 9pm. Bar Fonte has a constant flow of customers who enjoy the setting and the simple, but tasty antipasto. The drinks menu is varied and the service is great. The children loved the galati afterwards.

What an absolute little gem of a find. Whilst cycling the coast of Puglia we came across this superb little restaurant. Great, friendly staff, fabulous location and the best Roasted Veg and Mozzarella Pucce I had ever had. Salads were also amazing. Extremely reasonable prices, especially considering the quality of the food. Can’t recommend highly enough. We were there in 2nd week of October when a lot of restaurants are closed. Definitely worth a visit.

Very convenient for refreshments and food. The Piazza is delightful and the Castle stands to one side.

A nice place to gave a coffee or ice cream and watch the world go past. Castro is a charming village with some history and fine buildings.

As mentioned in other reviews, this charming little bar sits in a gorgeous piazza overlooking the Adriatic sea, and right beside a thousand year old castle. I don 't know how he does it, but Antonio seems to work here from the 6:30am opening to the 1:30am closing, seven days a week. And he stays charming! In fact if there are people sitting there he 'll stay open even past that time. He has help too, in the kitchen and in the bar, but some of the others could take charm lessons from Antonio, though they 're no worse than the average wait staff in Italy. You can get good coffee, snacks (croissant, pastries etc), smoothies, gelato, or full on meals, as well as wine spirits and beer. I actually don 't even know if there 's seating inside because we sat outside every day (and evening), under enormous umbrellas. The best experience of all was happy hour one evening. For Euros 7.50 a head, with four of us we received 12 small plates (each containing 4 pieces of the various dishes) and one large dish containing a pie cut into quarters and surrounded by bruschetta. Plus a drink of our choice. One of us had a non alcoholic cocktail, one had a campari spritzer and two had wine. So for a total of 30 Euros, four of us had an excellent meal and a drink!! We felt terrible taking advantage of them. Castro is a delightful place to explore in its own right, especially the old town up on the hill, as well as being a centre to explore other parts of the south coast. And while you 're there, enjoy the relaxed charm of Bar Fonte Dei Messapi you won 't regret it. In the what were you here for box I ticked other because we actually experienced lots.
