We'd sampled wine fresh from a wine producing chateau, rubbed shoulders with locals in the boulangerie and driven down long country lanes for only for Jules et Jim. And then we did the unthinkable....We waded into a Tex Mex diner called Yankee Grill. It was a sort of calling. Enough of the fancy wine, raw meat and duck. We need burgers cooked all the way through with beer. And Yankee Grill delivered it in spades. The walls were adorned with stars and stripes and artefacts from native American Indians. Worryingly, a large scale photo of a Souix Indian women who had had her nose cut off for adultery, sat right above my head. That aside. This was a classic Texan dinner with Johnny Cash playing away in the background. Following on we traipsed off to an Irish themed pub to watch a local French band who played nothing but 1960s American rock n roll covers. Who says France is too French?
