We stay at Castel Monastero all week basically. Service was excellent from start to end. They are patient to explain and make recommendations We took the tasting menu and order wine separately since we only drink whit. Wine prices are a lot more expensive (almost double) good restaurants around. We enjoyed our experience and this place was great View all feedback.
What Linda C doesn't like about Gordon Ramsay At Castel Monastero:
Lovely charming cellar room but extremely loud. Wait staff are friendly and very good with service. Food is flavorless and uninspired. Extremely overpriced. €25 for cocktails. €33 for pasta. View all feedback.
Of course, since this restaurant got an assiette Michelin , the cuisine is very tasty and the service professional. The location is charming (Hotel Castel Monastero, restaurant located in the courtyard). But an assiette Michelin is no reason to be pretentious and condescending: I dislike restaurants who charge expensive dishes while providing half-empty plates. I enclosed a photo of the eel forts course: a tiny portion of eel lost in a large plate.
I have no idea how someone couldn’t give this place a 5 star review. We had the chef selection 7-course meal. It was some of the best food and service I have ever had. My wife and I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world and this was on par with those.
Went here for dinner with a group of friends. The location is lovely, and the hotel itself rather impressive. Sadly, the Contrada restaurant, for all its pretensions and ambitions, is not very good. We found the service to be overly fussy but also ineffective, and insanely slow. The waiters looking after us took forever to note our orders and the placement of diners, but when they did eventually serve, they still managed to deliver the wrong dishes to guests. And although we had three staff members looking after the ten of us, we ended up pouring our own wine and water. They then managed to confuse the next set of dishes we had ordered. From sitting down to finishing the second course, it took almost three hours, which is pretty poor for a restaurant like this. The food itself was mostly good. But by the end of the agonisingly slow meal, we had had enough and wanted to go home and chose not to order pudding/dessert or coffee. But not before the waiters made snippy remarks about whether we wanted “pizza or lasagna”. So condescending and patronising. So there you have it a lovely setting, decent enough food, marred by poor and slow service.
