This is a place to stop for a drink or coffe when you visit Catelabate. This on the Piazzetta the centre of the town, there is also a couple of places to eat as well. This piazza is beautiful and have one of the best views in the area. View all feedback.
What desiofabio1 doesn't like about La Pizzetta Al Borgo:
I made a decision to go to this “famous” bar as my friends from Salerrno said and I said yes let’s go to this great bar ... I was thinking....: unfortunately we arrived and from the moment we asked a table until they said our requests were not right for the bar and they ask to leave the place, we were shocked, especially from the staff who was really rude. Please change bar or location, they don’t deserve your presen... View all feedback.
Castallabate has become much more commercialized since I last visited about 15 years ago. Piazzetta is on the site of what was the only café at the top of Castallabate. There are many more now. My wife wanted a snack and a coffee and I fancied an ice cream. For some reason, although the place styles itself as a 'gelateria ' and there is a 1123 ice cream parlour opposite, I was told that I was not allowed to have an ice cream at the café and could only buy one and eat it on foot. The reasoning behind this was not very clear as the waitress spoke virtually no English. She said she understood German. which I can speak, but it turned out she didn 't understand that either. So I decided that my wife would have her snack and coffee and I would buy an icecream afterwards at one of several parlours in the vicinity. Next an Italian family came along and amazingly the parents ordered drinks and the children sat eating ice cream. When I pointed this out to the waitress she reluctantly said I too could have an ice cream at the table as long as it was in a cardboard cup and not in a cornet. Who writes these rules and why? Well I enjoyed my ice cream and we left Piazzetta totally bemused.
We visited here off spec on a Sunday night. for dinner. Don’t expect the usual but It’s a great place to try local food carefully chosen and lovingly prepared. Everything was explained to us in English) and the manager helped us to choose what was a pretty spectacular meal of a combination of anti-pasti accompanied by local wine.
The cafe has a stunning view, so high up, wonderful, we ordered coffees and were given crisps and other bowls of nibbles and were sure we would be charged but were free, the coffee was lovely and the waitress very friendly, well worth a visit.
