Four weeks ago, I reserved a table for two at La Table du 7. This restaurant was highly recommended to my by the staff of the Hotel Jardin D'Emile. We were supposed to celebrate my friend's birthday at this dinner. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we noticed all the outdoor tables were marked reserved. We sure thought, since we reserved with advance, our table would be outside. I identified myself and the host just put us in a table inside in the back. I argued that I had made the reservation for the outdoors tables and way in advance. The host, not so sympathetic, said that all the tables were reserved. And left without showing no interesting in accommodating our request. I saw a Paul Bocuse quote on the way, saying that a good food is that made with the other in mind. I don't think the team of this restaurant learned from him. They were arrogant and showed no empathy. Perhaps the food is good if you can survive the attitude of the staff. A no no anymore for us.

Slightly average tasting menu experience... With a bit of bizarre thrown in. Setting: 7 is one of the few spots on the harbour that doesn't litter all its tables out across the street, with a slightly more extensive indoor setting it makes good use of. There is still a selection of tables outside though, so great port views are still in the offing! Atmosphere: 7 seems to offer diners a choice. There is a relaxed fine dining feel beyond its threshold, where many guests seemed to be having a quiet, classier time. And then there is the default Cassis experience outside, in the thick of the it, with stunning views of the port. If you'd prefer one to the other, you're probably best making it known when you book. Food: Tasting menus always have the potential to be a mixed bag, and this one for us was exactly that. Interestingly, my partner's starter was her favourite dish of the entire holiday a beef thataki de thon served with little pasta funnels of peanut satay. But when I asked her what she thought of the meal overall, she gave a telling face scrunch. While I can't fault ANY of the cooking or presentation, I couldn't help but think the menu was trying too hard... reaching for genius but resulting in plain odd. There was melt in the mouth Monkfish... slightly spoiled by strawberries. There was a mint gel with dessert which tasted like toothpaste... A strawberry mousse with an unsettling, jelly like texture... And I was thoroughly annoyed by what I thought would be a mid point palate cleanser, which instead turned out to be a mahoosive wedge of brie stuffed with truffle paste. Plain nauseating to eat after a very large starter and main! None of it was outright bad, it was all just a bit strange. And so we spent the latter half of the meal watching other diners and laughing at their reactions (which mirrored our own). But hey, that's tasting menus, and I've been lucky in my life that this is the first one that didn't quite tick all the boxes. Price: Spenny. We payed 160 euros for the experience, and in the end, it wasnt worth that at all. We had far better meals for half the price elsewhere. Hosting: Attentive bunch who seemed very nice! Their English is not the best, but my French is worse, so I can't fault their patience with us!
