This restaurant is a hidden gem. My fiancé and I ordered the squid stir-fry, galbi, and soon tofu. While we waited for our entrees, they brought out the banchan (side dishes). Everything was delicious! I can't wait to come back here for more food and take some pictures. You can check them out on Instagram at "the.pikachew." View all feedback.
What Adriana Braun doesn't like about Chanmaru:
The food was delicious, but the service was terrible. The young man working there was friendly, but a middle-aged Korean woman was extremely rude. She was nice to all Korean customers, but completely ignored us and refused to take our card when we tried to pay. We will not be returning due to her poor attitude. View all feedback.
This place had good and clean atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive.Heres the problem: The food was terrible. We got the seafood tofu soup spicy beef soup and spicy cold noodles The seafood tofu soup was so bland. It definitely needed salt. Like lots of it. Usually the salty soup balances or the tofu but this was bland throughout. The kimchi and the fish I had on the side (which was good) saved it. Hardly any seafood in the dish too. One shrimp, one or two clams and little tiny squid. Did not play a part in making the dish better. Also the rice that they give you on the side is not as fancy as they say. Go to BCD for this price point. Its 10x better. The spicy beef soup was good. Not great, not bad. Good. It had more flavor than the tofu soup and thats saying something since this restaurant prides itself as a tofu soup specialty restaurant. The spicy cold noodles sauce was terrible. It tasted worse than a store bought premade product. Go across the street to Dami for this dish.Banchan (side dishes) were good. Nothing special. They did have lots of options but again nothing stood out.Its hard times and I understand its a lot to keep your doors opened. But the quality of your menu should not fluctuate especially if you raise your prices by 10%. The whole point of the restaurant is to have a tastier version of the food you could make at home but you wont/cant. The convenience part also plays but not very applicable in todays times.Id love for this place to become better. It has potential. The interior design is great and you get a sense of cleanliness at the restaurant. The staff were very well trained and I give them high marks. However the food needs to do better.
The soontofu and kimchi pancake were so delicious and fulfilling- they made my day The side dishes were also unique and good! Thank you for the kind service as well!
With a friend, we decided we'd try this place as we've tried other Korean BBQ places and wanted to see if we could find another spot. The restaurant looks pretty new and nice, and it looked fairly clean. Upon entering the place looked nice, it did have a little bit of a fishy odor, but otherwise it was clean. Our waiter was with us fast, we got our orders in, and food didn't take long. I ordered the beef bulgogi, and my friend ordered tofu soup. I found the food to be good for the most part, the quality of my beef was a little below expectation for the price, but it was otherwise good, prices were pretty reasonable too. If I was in the area I'd return, it's worth trying too, though I do feel if they upped the quality a little than the food would have been a little better.
The rice was so good remind me of the rice we had when in Japan. Service was very good too.
At first I was a bit disappointed that the soon tofu soup was not to my preferred saltiness and spiciness, but the people were very accommodating and great and gave me some crushed jalapeños and coarse salt. Adding some changed the flavor of the dish so much that it was addicting. I was tempted to order another bowl for to go.
